Introduction:
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic centre which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology & Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

Responsibilities
You will be responsible to:
interpret and report various lab tests that are performed in the respective Stat Lab
perform procedures such as bone marrow aspirates and trephine biopsy, FNAC, skin biopsy, throat and other swabs, nail clippings and any other interventional tests as required
reduce patients/physicians’ queries and complaints by investigating the root cause and taking preventive measures to avoid complaints in the future
maintain quality assurance system in the Stat Lab, report and coordinate with the Main Lab for internal QC specimens
actively participate in internal and external quality audits and initiatives, including College of American Pathologists (CAP)
supervise and train technologists, trainee technologists and medical officers in various tests and procedures
identify new test requirements and validate the new lab tests by coordinating with the Section Head of respective discipline in the Main Lab
arrange, monitor and ensure commissioning of any new tests or services at the Stat Lab
ensure the availability of reagents and equipment in working conditions to maintain self-sustainability.
Requirements
You should have:
an MBBS degree with a valid PMDC license
FCPS in any discipline of Pathology, preferably in Hematology or Chemical Pathology or equivalent
at least one year of experience following postgraduate training
competence in laboratory procedures such as bone marrow, bone trephines, skin biopsies, FNCAs and others
knowledge and confidence in interpretation of laboratory reports
excellent teaching and interpersonal skills
expertise in understanding laboratory issues from the patient’s perspective
ability to take decisions by weighing several factors and to develop solutions that addresses the root cause of the problem and prevent recurrence
proactiveness to take actions for addressing crisis situations while making optimum use of available resources
proficiency in writing and documentation, especially with regards to patient care-related documentation.
