The opportunity
To strengthen our team, we are seeking a Senior Project Engineer with a strong focus on protection systems for substation automation projects. In this role, you will take technical ownership of the Control & Protection scope within complex (sub‑)transmission projects in Switzerland and internationally, acting as a key technical authority from base design through commissioning. You will work closely with project management, customers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to define, coordinate, and deliver robust protection solutions in line with system requirements, applicable standards, and Hitachi Energy best practices.

How you'll make an impact
Lead and own the Control & Protection engineering scope in substation automation system projects
Define protection concepts and philosophies in close collaboration with the technical lead engineering and with customers during the base design phase
Coordinate and guide the Protection & Control detailed engineering, ensuring alignment with SCADA, station control, and cyber security disciplines
Specify, configure and test protection IEDs in line with customer requirements, grid codes, and standards
Support and lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at our test facilities in Baden (Switzerland)
Your background
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with solid experience in protection engineering for substation automation systems
Proven expertise in protection schemes for (sub‑)transmission substations
Strong knowledge of IEC 61850 and substation automation architectures
Experience with Hitachi Energy Relion® protection IEDs is a strong advantage
Able to work independently, take technical decisions, and manage interfaces in complex projects
Strong communication skills and a structured, quality‑driven mindset
Fluent in English; German is an advantage
