MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA. This is an onsite position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conducting detailed site surveys and field validations of watercraft and equipment to assess network environments and document current configurations
Performing required communication equipment integration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of shipboard electronic and mechanical equipment
Working alongside engineers to design, build, and test solutions to a variety of technical problems related to Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) technologies
Documenting installation procedures and updating technical manuals, including drawing deviations and engineering change proposals
Collaborating with management, internal teams, and government stakeholders to navigate the technical review and approval process for all system installs
Recommending and implementing process and policy improvements to enhance system throughput, operability, and total ownership cost
Travel is up to 25%; most likely travel locations are Port Hueneme, CA and Norfolk, VA but could also include travel underway on a ship for testing and training
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s level degree in engineering discipline
3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering projects or services
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with UNREP or other Navy machinery
Experience in industrial marine environment can be substituted for Navy experience
Familiarity with Shipyard and NAVSEA installation requirements and supporting documentation
Proficiency with reading and interpreting ship schematics, wiring lists, and technical manuals
Experience working with Control Systems and/or Variable Frequency Drives
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Solidworks, and AutoCAD
Clearance Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs, planks, or galleyways and work in confined spaces.
Ability to operate standard office equipment (computers, printers, etc.).
Capability to go onboard ships and work in an industrial and operational environment.
Ability to climb ladders and go through scuttles onboard vessels.
Occasional movement around the office to access files and equipment.
