A Brief Overview
Assists in safe, efficient endoscopic procedures that the physicians will use as a tool for making a diagnosis for Adult patients. Assist in procedure rooms in caring for patients, obtaining specimens, cleaning, and turnaround of procedure room. Be knowledgeable in high level disinfected practices and record keeping. Be proficient in endoscopic equipment, set up, maintenance and troubleshooting. They will cross train to assist in procedures as needed. Participates in staff development and actively pursues professional and self-development. Technical specialist capable of being a resource to colleagues.
What You Will Do
- Accurately decontaminates and reprocesses endoscopic equipment and accessories. (40%)
- Maintains the cleanliness of all procedure rooms and reprocessing room. (20%)
- Maintains inventory of endoscopy supplies, reprocessing supplies and equipment. (10%)
- Under the direction of an RN, assists in procedure rooms to assist in caring for patient, obtaining specimens, and the cleaning and turn around of procedure rooms and pre and post recovery areas. (20%)
- Assists in the recovery room to meet and greet patients, assist RN’s with care and discharge of patients. (10%)

- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
Work Experience
- 3+ years Previous Lab experience endoscopy procedures and reprocessing of equipment. (Required) or
- 3+ years Previous experience in endoscopy reprocessing or Central Sterile Processing (Required)
- Previous patient care experience (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Capable of working with varied equipment. (Required proficiency)
- Detail-oriented, organized, and accurate. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment. (Required proficiency)
- Must have basic written and verbal communication skills. (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrated ability to use PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment (i.e., printers, copy machine, FAX machine, etc.). (Required proficiency)
- Notable client service skills. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) (Required within 1 Year)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (Preferred)
- Certification in Scope reprocessing (Required within 1 Year) and
- Successful completion of hospital based Endoscopy Orientation (Required)
- SGNA GI Technical Specialist (Required)
