As an Intermediate Geochemist/ Geoenvironmental Engineer, you will play a key role in assessing, monitoring, and mitigating geochemical and environmental impacts associated with oil sands mining. You will collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, and regulatory specialists to ensure compliance, optimize processes, and support reclamation efforts.

Minimum Requirements:
- Conduct geochemical and environmental characterization of oil sands tailings, overburden, and waste materials
- Design and implement field sampling programs for water, tailings, soil, and sediment
- Analyze and interpret geochemical and environmental data
- Develop and apply geochemical and solute transport models to predict environmental impacts and inform mine plans
- Prepare technical reports, regulatory submissions, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
- Support reclamation and closure plans by evaluating geochemical and environmental risks and recommending closure strategies

Responsibilities:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geochemistry, Geology, Environmental Science, Geoenvironmental Engineering or a related field
- Professional designation (P.Geo. P. Eng, P. Ag or eligibility) is required
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in mining, oil sands, or environmental consulting
- Strong knowledge of geochemical processes related to oil sands mining, including ARD/ML, tailings chemistry, and water quality
- Proficiency in geochemical modeling software (e.g., PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench) and data analysis tools
- Experience with field sampling surface water, ground water and soil, analytical chemistry and QA/QC procedures
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as required.
Location and other Key details:
- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. OR out of one of our Fort McMurray sites.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
- This position is safety sensitive
- Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
