The Traction Power Systems Construction Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all site construction activities related to the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Traction Power Substation System (TPSS) works. This role ensures all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, drawings, schedules, quality standards, and applicable legislation
• Ensure adherence to the Project Environmental Compliance Obligations (ECO) Plan and all applicable legislation while leading by example in safety, environmental, and quality performance.
• Develop weekly work plans, including craft labor and resource allocations, safety requirements, quality expectations, and productivity targets. Monitor and provide analysis of schedule performance and workforce productivity.
• Provide daily coordination to ensure all work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, and construction procedures.
• Develop non-manual and craft staffing plans that support overall project schedule requirements and construction sequencing.
• Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with approved project work procedures and technical requirements.
• Establish, implement, and ensure compliance with project procedures necessary to execute construction activities in accordance with project technical and contractual requirements.
• Plan and coordinate site activities with other subsystem construction representatives to avoid or minimize installation conflicts and interface clashes.
• Support the site team by responding to all design-related and technical queries in a timely and effective manner.
• Initiate, track, and monitor Field Change Directives (FCDs) in close coordination with the site team and Package Manager.
• Immediately report all close calls, incidents, and accidents to the Safety Department and line management in accordance with project reporting procedures.
• Represent the company professionally at all times through clear site communication, accurate and understandable work reports, and proactive communication with all stakeholders. Escalate issues and occurrences to management in a timely manner.
• Coordinate subcontractor activities, deficiency corrections, punch list items, independent testing, and inspection activities as required.
• Support installation, testing, and commissioning activities across related project disciplines, including:
• Overhead Catenary System (OCS)
• Electrical substations (Traction Power, AC & DC)
• Stray Current / Corrosion Mitigation
• Communications Systems (Comms.)
• Train Control and Signalling Systems (SIG)
• Identify and provide resolution to project issues as they arise, including:
• Work scheduling conflicts
• Work interference issues
• Errors, discrepancies, or omissions in consultant design drawings
• Deficiency list management
• Poor workmanship or quality concerns
• Diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline, OR electrical trade certification and equivalent work experience
• 3-5 years of hands-on systems and traction power experience
• Ability to trouble shoot as problems arise and ensure solutions are in keeping with best practices, safety codes, and communicated to all relevant parties (i.e. Engineer of Record)
• Understanding of Lock Out Tag Out procedures and Operations Maintenance Facility requirement
• Ability to read blueprints
• Solid technical savvy, including full Microsoft Office Suite
• Aconex, PrimaVera P3, an asset
Skills, Competencies, Attributes
• Valid driver’s license, preferably with clean abstract
• Must be able to negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction site when required, including steep or slippery terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, use of an aerial lift, and working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather
