Senior Rails Developer

Location: Remote
Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time
Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM Central Standard Time (CST), plus 2 flexible hours per day, Monday through Friday

Position Summary

Aoka is seeking an experienced Ruby on Rails Developer to join the VertexPlans Development Team. VertexPlans is Aoka’s software platform designed to streamline plan review, permitting, inspections, and project management for municipalities, consultants, and private clients. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable web applications and backend services that support the continued growth and enhancement of the platform.

The ideal candidate is a strong full-stack developer with deep Ruby on Rails expertise and experience with modern frontend technologies including React, TypeScript, and Next.js. You will work closely with product manager, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality features that improve user experience and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain new features and enhancements for the Vertex Plans platform
• Build and support backend services and RESTful APIs using Ruby on Rails
• Develop responsive frontend interfaces using React, TypeScript, and Next.js
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and responsiveness
• Design and maintain PostgreSQL database structures and queries
• Write and maintain automated tests for frontend and backend systems
• Participate in code reviews and follow established development standards
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and production issues
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 7 years of software development experience, including substantial hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails
• Bachelor’s degree required

Compensation and Benefits:

• Monthly salary ranging from $3,000 to $3,500, depending on experience and qualifications
