The Benefits Specialist supports our People Development Coordinators (PDCs) and operational leaders by administering and explaining team member benefits across Vetter Senior Living. This role serves as a trusted resource for benefit education, enrollment, life‑event changes, and leave management, while also supporting onboarding and offboarding processes.
In addition to benefits administration, this role will manage FMLA and Leaves of Absence (LOA), assist with Short‑Term Disability (STD), Long‑Term Disability (LTD), and life insurance claims, and work directly with an assigned group of locations to ensure team members understand their benefits from day one.
This role works from the Vetter Senior Living Home Office and involves close collaboration with PDCs, payroll, benefits vendors, and operations leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration & Education
- Serve as the primary benefits resource for PDCs and assigned locations.
- Conduct one‑on‑one benefits education with new team members in assigned location, including benefit elections, eligibility, and timelines.
- Support open enrollment, qualifying life events, and PDC/Team Member benefits related questions with clarity, patience, and professionalism.
- Partner with vendors and internal teams to resolve benefits issues efficiently.
Onboarding & Offboarding Support
- Support benefits‑related components of the onboarding process, ensuring smooth and positive new‑hire experiences.
- Support and coordinate benefits changes related to separations, status changes, and offboarding.
- Ensure accurate documentation, timely communications, and compliance throughout employment transitions.
Leave Management & Claims Support
- Manage operational aspects of FMLA and Leaves of Absence (LOA), including coordination with team members and leaders.
- Assist team members with Short‑Term Disability, Long‑Term Disability, and life insurance claims, guiding them through the process with care and attention.
- Track leave status and documentation and communicate clearly with stakeholders.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partner closely with People Development Coordinators (PDCs) and operations leaders to provide consistent, compliant benefits support.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve benefits processes, communication, and education.
- Contribute to a positive, service‑focused culture within the People team.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in benefits administration, HR, or a related role.
- Familiarity with STD, LTD, and life insurance claims processes.
- Working knowledge of health, dental, vision, retirement, and voluntary benefits.
- Experience supporting or administering FMLA and leaves of absence.
- HRIS, payroll, or benefits platform experience.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a heart for service.
- Ability to explain complex information in a clear, approachable way.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting multiple locations or field‑based teams.
- Experience working in healthcare, senior living, or a multi‑site environment.
