Business Bank (BB) secures and enhances the financial wellbeing of people, businesses and communities, particularly CommBank’s small and medium sized enterprise clients, including those in rural and regional areas, as well as the needs of CommBank’s online trading, broking customers.
BB Customer, Controls & Governance sits within the wider Advanced Analytics & Data (AAD) team, part of Customer, Channels and Data (CCD) in BB.
Your Role
As a Senior Analyst, you will be responsible for building out data driven projects, providing deep analytical insights and guiding strategic decision-making processes. Your primary focus will be to partner with Product, Technology and BB Chief Controls Office to ensure the accuracy, integrity and compliance of the BB data and processes.
Harnessing your passion for innovation and continuous improvement, you will be part of a team of talented analysts working to enhance our analytical capabilities and control frameworks, ultimately transforming the way the Business Bank optimises the customer experience through proactive risk management.
You will be passionate about fostering a collaborative cross-team culture that puts emphasis on development and growth. In this role, you will:
- Work collaboratively in cross-functional Scrum teams with Product, Analytics and BB Chief Control Office colleagues, leveraging the Group’s data assets to deliver analytical control processes and procedures
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of BB data, identifying and mitigating risks
- Deliver to deadlines by managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, agile environment
- Monitor and report on the progress of control activities, providing regular updates to senior management
- Ensure all control activities comply with internal policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
- Using advanced business acumen, translate complex business requirements and objectives into technical briefings to implement effective analytical control strategies and solutions
- Develop and implement best practices and process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the analytical control function
- Stay up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes, ensuring compliance with relevant standards
- Foster a positive team culture that encourages innovation, accountability and continuous improvement
Your Skills and Experience

- Data and analytics – Advanced analytical, numerate and logical reasoning skills, with experience using complex data and analytics to drive business results
- Stakeholder management – Ability to translate complex concepts into clear stakeholder messages and present confidently to senior leaders
- Commercial acumen – Ability to manage multiple time-critical priorities with an understanding of business value, effective prioritisation and sound decision-making
Experience and Education
- Demonstrable experience in Data Analytics or similar (e.g. actuary, pricing, or credit risk), with advanced level competence on SQL for data extraction data from complex, enterprise-grade datasets.
- Experience using data analysis and visualisation tools to develop dashboards, insights, recommendations and business solutions.
- Ability to understand complex problems and take a structured approach using data-driven insights to solve.
- Experience using Python for data wrangling or automation, R for analytics or modelling, and GitHub or similar tools for version control, code management or deployment would be beneficial.
- Knowledge and experience in Banking (customers, products, systems, processes) is preferred.
- Experience working in Agile or cross-functional delivery environments, using collaboration tools to manage priorities, documentation and stakeholder engagement, would be beneficial.
- Experience with using AI virtual assistants / prompt engineering
- Degree in relevant discipline (Actuarial, Statistics, Maths, Economics, Engineering or Sciences).
