About the role 

Bunnings in partnership with Intellihub is expanding its home electrification offer, Zelora, bringing more affordable solar and battery options to households at a time when energy costs and grid transformation are reshaping how Australians power their homes. Following a successful trial in Sydney and Newcastle last year, Zelora is now being rolled out across metropolitan Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, significantly increasing access to the offer nationwide. 

This is a rare opportunity to build a People & Culture function from the ground up and shape how a growing business supports its people. In this role you will play a key part in supporting the Zelora business as we expand our offering.  

Operating as a standalone Senior People & Culture Partner, you’ll work closely with the CEO and leadership team of Zelora to create practical, fit‑for‑purpose foundations that enable performance, compliance and a positive team member experience as the organisation scales.

What’s involved 

• Establish and run an end‑to‑end People & Culture capability as a standalone function, building the frameworks, policies and processes needed for a growing business. 

• Design a practical, low‑cost HR operating model that supports compliance, performance and scalability. 

• Partner with the CEO and leaders to translate business strategy into workforce plans, capability priorities and people initiatives, aligned to current needs and future growth. 

• In partnership with the CEO, drive the creation of a new team culture, vision and values set. 

• Create and embed a compelling Employee Value Proposition (EVP) to attract and retain talent in a competitive market. 

• Deliver end‑to‑end talent solutions including recruitment, onboarding, performance, succession and talent development. 

• Coach leaders to confidently manage performance, conduct and employee conversations, lifting capability across the business. 

• Manage employee relations matters with professionalism and fairness, including grievances and disciplinary processes. 

• Implement and oversee outsourced payroll arrangements, ensuring accuracy and legislative compliance. 

• Design and administer remuneration and reward practices that are aligned to market and organisational expectations. 

• Facilitate leadership discussions, people forums and change initiatives that strengthen culture and engagement. 

Who we’re looking for 

You enjoy building from a blank page and are comfortable being both the strategic thinker and the hands‑on doer. You bring sound judgement, a pragmatic mindset and the confidence to influence across a range of leadership styles. 

You’re known for building trusted relationships quickly and for providing advice that balances risk, compliance and employee experience. You’re energised by growth, change and complexity, and you value collaboration, openness and shared success. You’ll be joining leaders who value practical solutions, clear advice and people‑centred decision making. 

You’ll need: 

• Proven experience in a greenfield or standalone People & Culture role, designing and operating a fit‑for‑purpose function. 

• Strong demonstrated experience across generalist People & Culture disciplines 
• Strong working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, awards and industrial instruments. 

• Demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters with minimal external legal support. 

• Capability to translate business strategy into workforce plans, talent and capability initiatives. 

• Experience implementing low‑cost recruitment solutions and managing outsourced payroll. 

• Confidence coaching leaders and facilitating effective conversations and change. 

• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or a related field. 

• Willingness to travel as required.
