Stantec Buildings is seeking an Electrical Technologist – Power Studies to support power system analysis and building electrical design for a wide range of clients and project types.
This role is well suited to early‑career professionals and recent graduates, seeking to specialize or grow their expertise in electrical power system studies within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Training, mentorship, and technical support will be provided to support professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Working as part of a power system team, this work will involve the power system study, design, drafting for building and industrial electrical systems, with focus on short circuit, protective devices coordination, arc flash, and grounding analysis.
- Support the preparation and execution of power system studies, including but not limited to:
- Load flow / power flow studies
- Short circuit and equipment duty calculations
- Protective devices coordination studies
- Arc flash hazard analysis
- Grounding grid analysis
- Assist with the development of electrical power system models using industry-standard power analysis software.
- Organize and interpret electrical engineering data to prepare clear and concise technical reports and design documentation.
- Coordinate with architectural and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and constructible design solutions.
- Verify conformance of designs and studies with applicable electrical codes, standards, and Stantec procedures.
- Perform quality control checks under the guidance of senior engineers and technologists.
- Participate in field work as required, which may include site visits, data collection, construction observation, and review of submittals.
- Manage multiple tasks efficiently while meeting project schedules and deadlines.
Capabilities and Credentials
- Fundamental understanding of electrical power systems for buildings and infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA Z462, IEEE 1584, building codes, and general building systems (or willingness to learn).
- Interest in and aptitude for power system analysis and electrical calculations.
- Proficiency or familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience or exposure to power study software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, SES, CDEGS, CYME, or similar) is an asset.
- Working knowledge or academic experience with Revit and AutoCAD; willingness to further develop BIM skills.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from senior staff.
- Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow within a professional consulting environment.
Education and Experience
- Technical diploma, degree, or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- New graduates and early‑career candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Prior co‑op, internship, academic, or entry‑level experience related to electrical design or power systems is an asset but not required.
- Position is primarily hybrid with occasional field work.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
