As a MIG Welder / Fabricator (Electric Arc), you’ll build steel weldments that support the performance and reliability of industrial separation equipment. You’ll join Rotex, a Hillenbrand company, in Cincinnati, Ohio where we design and manufacture industrial separation equipment used across processing and bulk handling environments. Your work will strengthen safety, quality, and on-time delivery through disciplined craftsmanship and steady, repeatable execution. You’ll help create assemblies that perform in demanding customer applications for years.
Shift: 2nd, 10 hours, 4 days/week
Standard Hours: Monday - Thursday 3:30pm - 2:00am
Overtime: As needed Monday - Thursday 3pm - 3:30am, plus Fridays
Training: Training will be conducted on 1st shift (M-F, 6a-2:30p) for an initial 3-4 months before transitioning to 2nd shift as listed above.
Location: 1230 Knowlton - Cincinnati, Ohio
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Perform manual and semi-automatic welding on ferrous metal components utilizing SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding) processes. Tasks include joint preparation, fit-up, tack welding, gas torch cutting, and final weld out in accordance with applicable welding procedures (WPS).
Execute fabrication of structural and non-structural weldments, including sub-assemblies and full assemblies made from 16-gauge to heavy plate steel, adhering to mechanical drawings and customer specifications.
Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, combination squares, straightedges, rulers) to lay out, position, and align components prior to welding. Use clamps, fixtures, and jigs to ensure accurate alignment and securement during assembly.
Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication blueprints to determine weld joint configurations, material requirements, and fabrication sequences.
Perform all-position welding (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) as required by project specifications.
Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections, checking for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and potential discontinuities using visual inspection techniques and inspection tools.
Carry out routine preventive maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment, including torches, power sources, wire feeders, and grinders, and identify when corrective maintenance is required.
Other duties as assigned, including cross-functional tasks within the fabrication department.
TEAM:
You’ll work alongside welders, fabricators, and production partners in a shop where respect, clear handoffs, and shared standards support belonging and safe work. You’ll coordinate build priorities, help unblock work, and contribute to dependable output that supports Rotex and Hillenbrand’s long-term success.
THE EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED:
3+ years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Proven skill in MIG (GMAW), flux-core (FCAW), and stick (SMAW) on carbon steel or other ferrous materials.
Welding certification from an accredited institution, and the ability to weld to a WPS.
Ability to read and apply fabrication blueprints and welding symbols for fit-up, weld size, and sequence.
Comfortable performing fit-up and tack, using fixtures and clamps, and operating common shop tools (grinders, torches, measuring tools).
Ability to complete a pre-hire evaluation, including a blueprint reading/interpretation test and a hands-on weld sample.
Ability to train on 1st shift for 3–4 months, then transition to 2nd shift, and work overtime when needed.
Steady attention to safety, quality, and communication so you can work independently and coordinate smoothly with the team.
If you’re interested in joining the team, submit an application to be considered.
