Job Description
ACEREZ, a partnership of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy, has been appointed network operator by EnergyCo to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) transmission network. The ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), the design and construct (D&C) consortium, will design and build the Central-West Orana REZ transmission project.
The new transmission network infrastructure will deliver at least 4.5 gigawatts of new network capacity from 2028 to connect 7.7 gigawatts of wind and solar projects, which is enough to power more than 2 million homes each year.
Job Description
Our Central-West Orana project is currently seeking dedicated Electrical Trade Assistants to share their expertise within our growing Energy Hubs and Substations team.
Working as a Trade Assistant (TA) on 330kV and 500kV high-voltage (HV) substations involves supporting both electrical and civil crews on large-scale infrastructure projects. These roles are critical for the construction and maintenance of Australia’s CWO transmission network.
This is a remote project position operating on a 14 days on / 7 days off roster. Bus transport is currently provided from Sydney only, with various pick-up and drop-off stops between Sydney and the Mudgee region. All other applicants within NSW will be required to DIDO (Drive In Drive Out) at their own expense. Please note this is not a FIFO role and candidates residing outside NSW will be required to arrange and fund their own travel to Sydney or site if successful.
Key Responsibilities:
Cable Management: Assisting with cable hauling, cutting, and laying heavy high-voltage cables into trenches or onto cable trays.
Equipment Installation: Helping electricians mount HV switchgear, insulators, and transformers. This includes manual assembly tasks like screwing, bolting, and connecting components.
Tool Handling: Managing specialized tools for the crew, including hydraulic crimpers, drills, and testing equipment. You are often responsible for inspecting these tools for defects and tagging them if they are unsafe.
General Labour Support: Assisting electrical and civil crews with general site duties while maintaining high safety and housekeeping standards.
Required Skills and Competencies
A valid Construction White Card is mandatory for entry onto any construction site.
While specific HV training is often provided, previous experience in high-voltage environments or a strong mechanical/electrical aptitude is highly valued.
Electrical Spotters cert UETDREL006 - Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker or willing to obtain
LVR/CPR or willing to obtain Highly regarded
High risk work licence – EWP
These roles involve heavy lifting, working outdoors in various conditions and remote environments.
Safe operation of hand and power tools such as hydraulic crimpers, drills, grinders, and concrete cutters.
Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with various trades and clearly report site risks or equipment issues to supervisors.
Current Driver’s Licence required.
