Job Summary
The Paint Preparation position is responsible for preparing power distribution equipment for painting through proper surface preparation techniques. This role supports production quality by ensuring units are correctly sanded, ground, blasted, taped, and masked prior to painting. The position requires adherence to safety, quality, and production standards while working collaboratively within the paint and production teams. Flexibility to support production demands, including overtime, is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare transformer units for painting through sanding, grinding, and occasional blasting.
- Apply tape and masking to ensure proper paint coverage and prevent bare or exposed areas.
- Transport and stage units for surface preparation and painting operations.
- Assist with labeling and final preparation of units as required.
- Maintain quality standards to support a reject rate of less than 1.5%, including proper sanding and masking techniques.
- Operate and maintain sanding, grinding, and other shop equipment within the assigned workstation.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area in accordance with company safety standards.
- Work closely with other associates in a team-oriented production environment.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment as needed.
- Work overtime as required to meet production workload demands and operational goals.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Lead, Supervisor, or Management.
Requirements
Education / Certifications- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience- Previous manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Honest, trustworthy, reliable, and hardworking.
- Basic arithmetic skills.
- Ability to use hand tools, sanding and grinding equipment, and basic shop tools.
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and meet quality standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, standing, walking, bending, and repetitive motion in an industrial environment.
- Physical ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50lbs of force occasionally and/or in excess of 20lbs force frequently.
