We are looking for a self-motivated Cyclic Operator to join our hard-working team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in roading or civil infrastructure, or with building and/or handyman experience, who is confident taking on physically demanding work. You’ll be part of a friendly, close-knit crew running out of our Hāwera branch, where everyone gets along and backs each other to get the job done.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
You will primarily be responsible for minor roading maintenance and repairs across the South Taranaki District Council maintenance contract network. This role is largely independent, so you’ll need to be self-motivated, well organised, and comfortable taking sole charge of your work truck and daily tasks. If you enjoy variety and working outdoors, this is a great fit – you’ll tackle a wide range of activities on the network each day and be accountable for seeing the job through.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities
Carry out essential road repairs, including road and pothole fixes
Complete upkeep of minor barriers across the network
Remove debris and litter to keep roads clear and tidy
Undertake a range of other road maintenance activities
Assist with emergency responses as required to keep the network operating safely
Use your technical expertise and proactive approach to help maintain vital infrastructure so communities stay connected and safe

A minimum of a full Class 2 licence (WTR endorsements preferred, but not essential)
Practical skills from roading, building and/or handyman work, with a strong hands-on approach
Confidence to work independently and safely, taking ownership of your truck, tasks, and time
Sound computer skills, including basic data entry and using mobile devices or tablets on the job
A strong focus on safety and attention to detail, doing the job right the first time
A good level of physical fitness to handle the demands of outdoor, hands-on work
An honest, hard-working attitude, with a willingness to give things a go and pitch in where needed
