Job Summary
• We are seeking an experienced privacy professional to join HP’s Trust and Privacy Organization in Barcelona. This role combines privacy counsel and privacy advisor responsibilities, supporting HP’s Business Units and Global Functions on privacy and data protection matters. The role will involve providing practical, risk-based privacy legal advice, reviewing and negotiating contracts, maintaining and updating HP contractual terms, and partnering closely with business, legal, cybersecurity, and compliance stakeholders to embed privacy by design across HP’s operations. This position requires strong legal judgment, the ability to translate complex privacy requirements into pragmatic guidance, and comfort working in a fast-paced global environment.
Responsibilities
Provide privacy legal advice and privacy advisory support to HP Business Units and Global Functions on a wide range of privacy and data protection topics.
Review, draft, and negotiate privacy-related contractual provisions, including data protection clauses, data processing agreements, and data sharing agreements.
Support the maintenance and periodic updates of HP standard privacy contractual templates, ensuring they remain aligned with applicable laws, regulatory guidance, and HP policies.
Provide guidance on the application of global privacy laws and regulations and support stakeholders in understanding their practical implications.
Advise on global privacy laws and regulations.
Support and contribute to privacy risk assessments and PIA/DPIAs, including identifying risks, proposing mitigations, and documenting defensible privacy positions.
Partner closely with different Business Units and Global Functions to ensure privacy requirements are understood and implemented.
Support the legal assessment of personal data breaches, including advising on notification obligations to data protection supervisory authorities and affected individuals, and partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and compliant responses.
Provide guidance on data subject requests (DSRs), including legal interpretation of applicable privacy requirements and guidance on complex sensitive cases.
Support regulatory, audit, and compliance activities where privacy expertise is required.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of HP’s privacy governance, documentation, templates, and processes.
Stay up to date on evolving privacy laws, regulatory guidance, and enforcement trends, and proactively assess their impact on HP.
Education & Experience Recommended
• Four-year or Graduate Degree in Law, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
• Typically has 7-10 years of work experience in privacy and data protection, gained in a law firm, in-house legal department, regulatory body, or a mixed legal/privacy advisory role.
• Demonstrated experience reviewing and negotiating commercial and data protection agreements.
• Experience providing practical privacy advice to business stakeholders, ideally in a multinational or technology-driven environment.
Preferred Certifications
• State Bar Membership
• Privacy certifications such as IAPP CIPP/E (or equivalent)
Knowledge & Skills
• Solid knowledge of data protection and privacy laws, in particular GDPR and global privacy frameworks.
• Ability to combine legal analysis with pragmatic, business-oriented advice.
• Good understanding of data protection concepts.
• Strong drafting and review skills for contracts, policies, and written legal guidance.
• Ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and comfort working in an international organization.
