Independently plans and conducts a variety of recreational activities in support of a planned recreation program; and/or assists higher level staff in implementing a planned recreational program; and performs other related duties as required.Examples of Duties:

Plans for a variety of recreational activities in support of a planned recreation program;
Develops plans in consultation with supervisors;
Teaches, officiates, and/or instructs a variety of recreational specialties including the cultural, athletic, or leisure activities;
Recruits participants and volunteers;
Assists in the planning and presentation of county-wide recreational programs;
Prepares fields and facilities for recreational activities and sporting events;
Prepares groups for competitive activities;
Schedules community use of recreational park, playground, and facility;
Provides information about programs and events;
May assist or provide information on how to reserve recreational facilities;
Attends staff meetings;
May supervise others;
Performs other clerical and custodial tasks; and
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and
one (1) year of general work experience; and
one (1) year of specialized work experience.
Qualifying General Work Experience:
Any work experience which may involve the basic skills: reading, writing, computation and communication.
Qualifying Specialized Work Experience:
Work experience in organizing, conducting and/or instructing recreational or group activities.
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, as required (Hawai‘i Type 3 or equivalent); and possession of valid certifications prior to completion of probation:
American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate or equivalent; and
Either an American Red Cross Community CPR Certificate, certificate of completion of the American Heart Association Health Care Provider course or equivalent.
(These certificates must be maintained on a current basis thereafter).
