General Description:
The Mechanic (Seasonal/Temporary – As Needed) is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and incidental mechanical repairs on various company and customer vehicles and equipment. Mechanics may be required to design, modify and fabricate equipment to certain standards by request. This position will also perform a variety of facility maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, electrical repairs, janitorial duties, tire work and other responsibilities as directed
Note: This is a Seasonal/Temporary position, filled on an as-needed basis.

- Comply with all guidelines, policies and procedures established by CCI while on shift, on call or attending training.
- Demonstrate professional skills and capabilities equal to a Certified Mechanic.
- Proficiency with problem solving and the ability to complete timely maintenance and repair on vehicles, equipment and machinery including static and rotating mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct all routine and non-routine preventative maintenance (PM’s) on CCI/Kakivik and Customer’s equipment according to designated PM schedule, execute modifications and repairs as assigned.
- Communicate daily status of current projects to the supervisor to ensure all projects are timely and within CCI standards.
- Maintain and demonstrate proficient working knowledge of all response-related equipment, policies, procedures, and tactics always.
- Maintain an organized, safe and efficient work area.
- Partner with coworkers to learn new skills and share knowledge.
- Manage inventory of critical parts and supplies.
- Welding and metal fabrication as needed.
- Attend and participate in required meetings, training, and exercises.
- Self-directed with minimal supervision.

- Maintain 100% “Safety Standards and Accountability” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:
- Maintain compliance with the required HSE Training.
- Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.
- Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly and willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident.
- Performs work in strict compliance with permitting requirements, Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) Standards and other compliance-oriented directives.
- Participating in safety meetings, working safely, and maintaining a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI Industrial Services.
- Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.
- Demonstrate and promote safe work practices by participating in JSA reviews, pre-job walkdowns and safety START card preparations covering work activities and materials required by the company and the client.
- Promote and participate in Safety Programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of static and rotating mechanical equipment.
- Ability to follow directions in detail.
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, schematics and procedures.
- Ability to work well with others in an environment that includes harsh weather conditions, remote locations, and diversified personalities.
- Skilled in interpersonal communication with the ability to work closely in a small shop environment.
- Intermediate computer skills, including the ability to take online training, email general reports and use Microsoft Office Software.
- Ability to clearly speak, write, read, and understand the English language.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Current NSTC card
- 3-5 years’ experience working as a mechanic
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous welding experience
- Welding Certifications
- Valid CDL
- Experience with pumps, heaters, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and rotating equipment is preferred.
Work Environment:
This is a North Slope assigned full-time position with normal working hours 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days/week with an alternate. All North Slope positions are on-call 24 hours/day while on shift or assigned temporarily to another project. Flexibility regarding hours of work is required as needed to meet demands of the job. Position may be recalled at any time during spill emergencies.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
Position may be exposed to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors. Arctic PPE is provided. This position may involve working with potentially hazardous materials and waste. Hard-to-safety footwear is always required while working. This position will require frequent walking and standing, occasional keyboard use, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee’s ability to perform to the job standard. - MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
- HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
- VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
- LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from waist level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
- RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
