Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The cook is responsible for providing quality food according to the approved menu, follow safety, hygiene and nutrition standards and work as part of the Food Services Team at Rotary Hospice House.
Accountabilities:
- Develop a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu designed to meet the needs of up to 10 residents while ensuring that the meals are nutritious and satisfying. Plans and prepare special diets or special event meals in consultation with care professionals and other staff.
- Prepares and cooks lunch and dinner and other sustenance items using safe food handling and preparation procedures and safety and health standards.
- Responsible for assisting with the purchasing and ordering of food items, and food supplies necessary for the preparation of meals.
- Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits and ensures that inventories of food and other related items are maintained. Maintains good relationships with service and food/equipment providers.
- Reports on any equipment maintenance needs. Duties may involve light maintenance (i.e., cleaning of equipment, basic sanitation, etc.).
- Provides caring environment for residents and families.
- Ensures all kitchen documentation is accurate and complete.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of information.
- Participate in work-related conferences and seminars to gather knowledge of trends and initiatives.
- Fosters positive relationships with and between families and staff members.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Work environment may be sensitive and emotional as you are exposed to residents who pass away.
Physical Requirements
- Able to push, pull, & lift a minimum of 23 kg
- Able to stand for entirety of shift
- Able to crouch or bend down following proper form
- Able to reach above and overhead

Education and Experience
- Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one academic year is an asset
- More than one year of experience in cooking, preferably in the health care facilities
- Current Food Safe Level 1 minimum Certificate
- WHMIS certificate
- Direct experience in a palliative Hospice environment
- Cooking certificate is an asset

Compensation:
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
