Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The SA Field Worker – Community Services is responsible for participating in and supporting the programs of The Salvation Army Mississauga Community Church, Community Services that help to connect members of the wider community with services that meet human needs. These needs could include hunger, loneliness, isolation, and spiritual connection.
ACCOUNTABILITES:
- Assist with conducting intake services, client assessment to determine immediate needs and supports required by the client.
- Refers clients to Community Ministry Coordinator or Corps Officer for pastoral assistance.
- May assist other food bank staff with pick-ups of food/toy donations from community donors.
- Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, sorting, reorganizing, and re-stocking food and toy donations for the Family Services program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
- Assist with maintaining food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area; assist with food drives as needed.
- Arrange for the proper disposal of items received but not usable in the food bank.
Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
- The work environment is typically in a general office setting in generally agreeable conditions with the following exceptions: dealing with difficult people.
- Ability to lift/move objects on a regular basis up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- This job requires involves working in a standing position for extended periods of time, lifting walking, carrying, sitting, reaching, bending, and twisting.
- Ability to lift/move objects on a regular basis up to 30 pounds without assistance.
Normal hours of work – 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with a 1-hour unpaid meal break
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Submit as required a Police Record Check that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
- This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
- a valid Social Insurance Number;
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible
- An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of a minimum of grade ten (10).
- Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR Certifications are an asset.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience working and/or volunteering in community-based programs, including experience working with multi-barriered persons.
- Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office.
- Conflict resolution skills are a definite asset.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
