Job Description:
Client Services:
- Responsible for shift coordinator role including; dispensing medication, completing safety checks, logbook recordings, intake and discharge.
- Ensure participant safety throughout the night including half hourly room checks completed and documented.
- Responsible to ensure the needs of program participants are met i.e. physically, emotionally, medically, and behaviorally.
- Plan menu according to Canada’s Food Guide; maintain inventory of grocery/ household items and generate shopping list.
- Complete meal/ snack preparation for the following day as outlined on the approved menu.
- Primary responsibility for house maintenance duties as outlined under ‘shift responsibilities’ as well as the organization and maintenance of property and program supplies.
- Advocate on behalf of the program participants to promote health and well-being.
- Ensure that participants follow through on personal care routines and routines of daily living.
- Provide intervention for any behavioural challenges.
- Dispense medication as required and ensure that all medication charting is completed in compliance with established agency policies.
- Liaise with parents, caregivers, community partners as required.
Communication/Administration:
- Ensure proper recording in the daily log, shift change book, anecdotal recordings, incident reports, restraint forms, etc.
- Report any identified needs to team members, Respite Program Supervisor and/or On –Call designate and parent/usual caregiver.
- Assist the Respite Program Supervisor in the maintenance and updating of participant records and other program documentation.
On-call Responsibilities:
- Provide on-call after-hours support and consultation to Respite staff:
- Maintain accurate documentation of calls received.
- Provide assistance to address basic utility concerns; maintenance issues.
- Notify secondary on-call staff of any serious occurrences.
- Provide assistance including appropriate notifications in the event of an emergency such as fire, evacuation, death, missing person, major maintenance issues, serious accident and/or injury requiring hospitalization.
- Provide direct care support only as required.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
- This is a Contract full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements; weekend and evening work is required.
- On-call Duties- weekends- rotational schedule- required to remain within the city and approximately ½ hr. from the facility should it be necessary to go into the facility.
- On-Call Duties – will be compensated as per the current on-call scale.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
- Walking and standing for long periods.
- Some kneeling, running may be required.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completed two (2) years of Community College in related education (Developmental Service Worker diploma, Child and Youth Worker diploma or equivalent) in the area of developmental disabilities.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior work experience in a social services setting providing direct care to children, youth and adults who have intellectual disabilities; dealing with crises.
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Current Safe Food Handling Certification.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Maintain information in confidence as required
- Ability to participate as an active team member in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere.
- Participate in mandatory orientation training.
- Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
- Ensure that all certifications are maintained as required.
- Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.

- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products is required - i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint; Email and Internet etc.
- Fluent French verbal and written communication skills are an asset.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” or “G2” Driver’s License is required, current original copy of driver’s abstract, which is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is also required.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening including a Broad Record Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $23.10 to $28.88 with a maximum of $34.65.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
