Job Summary
The Researcher is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing research activities related to oil palm breeding, genetics, and improvement programs. The role supports the development of high-performing and sustainable planting materials through scientific research, data analysis, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The Researcher will contribute to next-generation breeding and conservation programs while ensuring research objectives, timelines, and reporting requirements are achieved.
Possess strong knowledge in plantation management and oil palm agronomy.
Apply plant breeding strategies and methodologies, particularly in oil palm improvement programs.
Differentiate and evaluate various oil palm genetic backgrounds and phenotypes.
Lead and support oil palm improvement programs involving Introgressed Deli and 3-way breeding materials.
Identify desirable agronomic and yield traits for selection and advancement.
Support next-generation breeding and germplasm conservation programs.
Develop breeding and mating designs and conduct genetic analyses for selection decisions.
Analyze breeding trial data including yield, vegetative, bunch quality, and progeny performance.
Maintain accurate research records, breeding databases, and experimental documentation.
Prepare, manage, and monitor research project budgets and resource utilization.
Coordinate research activities to ensure projects are completed within timelines and objectives.
Collaborate with internal departments, research institutions, and external partners to improve research efficiency and outputs.
Prioritize and manage multiple research activities simultaneously.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to research assistants and subordinates.
Ensure compliance with research protocols, safety procedures, and organizational standards.
Participate in field evaluations, trial establishment, and monitoring activities.
Prepare technical reports, research updates, and presentations for management review.
Produce scientific publications, technical papers, and conference presentations related to research findings.
Present research progress and recommendations to stakeholders and management.
Support knowledge transfer activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain proper documentation and reporting of breeding and research activities.
Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, Biotechnology, Agriculture, or related disciplines.
Strong understanding of oil palm biology, breeding principles, and genetic improvement.
Knowledge in statistical analysis and research methodologies.
Familiarity with breeding data management and analysis tools is an advantage.
