About the Role
The Reinsurance Contracts Counsel / Specialist is a senior member of the Asia L\&H Contracts team, responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex Life & Health reinsurance contracts to ensure they clearly reflect underwriting intent, support disciplined risk‑taking and sustainable performance for Swiss Re.
The role acts as a trusted commercial contracts adviser, applying Swiss Re contracting standards consistently across markets while proactively identifying, articulating and managing contractual risk.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the drafting, review and negotiation of complex and non‑standard Life & Health reinsurance contracts across assigned Asia markets.
• Ensure contracts are clear, commercially aligned and risk‑disciplined, minimising ambiguity and rework.
• Identify and communicate contractual risks, deviations and trade‑offs in a clear, business‑focused manner.
• Promote and apply Swiss Re standard wordings and methodologies, including documenting deviations and rationale.
• Proactively support management of legacy and emerging contract risks through reviews, assessments and targeted projects.
• Use advancing digital technology, including GEN AI Tools as standard contracting workflows to ensure transparency and traceability.
• Embed GenAI tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT) into day‑to‑day contracting work to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Collaborate closely with Client Managers, Underwriting and cross‑functional partners on complex contractual topics.
• Mentor Junior Contracts Counsel and support training and capability uplift across the Asia Contracts team.
• Contribute to regional and global Contracts initiatives, metrics and reporting as required.

About You

• 4-8 years’ Legal experience drafting and reviewing complex contracts; financial services or (re)insurance experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of contract law and its practical application in a commercial context.
• Confident communicator with the ability to challenge constructively and influence outcomes.
• Highly structured, detail‑oriented and able to work independently under time pressure.
• Comfortable working with digital workflows and GenAI tools, with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Collaborative team player who actively supports shared delivery and development.
• Excellent written and spoken English; Chinese or other Asian languages an advantage.
• Flexibility to support Asia time zones.
• Able to comply with in-office requirements
