POSITION SUMMARY:

The responsible individual may be required to service/maintain equipment or care for other responsibilities at the Hospital and/or at any of the many "Off-Site Facilities" as determined by the Director of Facilities and Engineering or appointed personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Performs routine tasks associated with maintenance, repair, installation, and alteration of basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical jobs.
• Performs preventive, casualty, and corrective maintenance on equipment.
• Assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment.
• Troubleshooting machinery and performing routine preventative maintenance.
• Reading, interpreting, and following instructions and operation manuals. 
• Maintaining a schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing machinery.
• Cleaning, repairing and installing equipment and parts as needed.
• Operating a variety of hand and power tools.
• Maintaining a clean and organized work area. 
• Complying with health and safety regulations.
• Performing general maintenance work on buildings as assigned.
   

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent. 
• Active New York State Driver's License.
• Ability to read and write in order to understand equipment operating instructions and maintain logs and records of work performed and to interpret non-complex blueprints and manufacturer's specifications.
• Requires approximately one-year on-the-job experience.
• Knowledge and ability to operate hand and power tools.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability. 
• Strong computer skills.
• Good troubleshooting skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Trade or vocational school graduate preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and to lift objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
• Occasional exposure to excessive noise from machinery and to minor electrical shocks or burns from equipment.
• Physical dexterity.

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
