Job Title: Mobile Maintenance Planner
Reporting directly to the Superintendent, Mobile Maintenance, this position is responsible for planning and scheduling all maintenance activities for mobile equipment and light vehicles for the Eskay Creek Project. This role focuses on developing detailed work plans, optimizing maintenance execution, and ensuring all resources, parts, and labour are aligned to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The Mobile Maintenance Planner works closely with the Coordinator, Supervisors, and warehouse teams to ensure maintenance work is well-prepared and executed effectively.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop detailed weekly and long-range maintenance plans for all mobile equipment, fixed plant, and light vehicles.
- Build and maintain a rolling maintenance schedule (weekly, bi-weekly, and shutdown planning).
- Create job plans for all maintenance tasks, including scope, labour requirements, tooling, and estimated durations.
- Prioritize planned work in alignment with operational requirements and equipment criticality.
- Coordinate planned maintenance activities with Operations to minimize downtime and disruption.
- Ensure all preventive maintenance (PM) tasks are scheduled and completed in accordance with OEM and site requirements.
Work Management & Execution Readiness:
- Ensure all work orders are fully planned prior to execution, including parts availability, labour, permits, and documentation.
- Maintain backlog of planned work and ensure proper prioritization and readiness.
- Review completed work orders for accuracy, completeness, and proper close-out in the system (e.g., Pronto).
- Continuously improve job plans using feedback from Supervisors, Lead Hands, and mechanics.
Parts & Materials Planning:
- Identify and plan all parts, materials, and tooling required for scheduled maintenance.
- Coordinate with warehouse and procurement teams to ensure parts availability prior to scheduled work.
- Assist in defining critical spares and minimum stock levels for key components.
- Support long lead item planning for major component replacements and rebuilds.
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement:
- Track and analyze maintenance KPIs including PM compliance, schedule adherence, backlog, and equipment reliability. • Provide planning input into weekly and monthly maintenance reports.
- Identify trends in equipment performance and recommend improvements to maintenance strategies.
- Support development of standard job plans, maintenance strategies, and asset hierarchies within the CMMS. Safety, Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure all planned work incorporates safety requirements, including permits, procedures, and hazard assessments.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, job plans, and documentation in accordance with site standards.
- Support compliance with all safety and environmental regulations related to maintenance planning.
Coordination & Communication:
- Work closely with the Mobile Maintenance Coordinator, Supervisors, and Operations to align plans with daily execution.
- Participate in daily and weekly planning meetings, including scheduling and shutdown planning sessions.
- Communicate upcoming planned work, risks, and constraints to relevant stakeholders.
Fleet & Major Maintenance Planning:
- Develop long-term plans for major component replacements, rebuilds, and lifecycle management of equipment.
- Support planning for seasonal work, shutdowns, and major maintenance campaigns.
- Assist in planning for new equipment commissioning and integration into the maintenance program.
Additional Responsibilities
- All other duties as reasonably assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of 5 years direct experience in heavy equipment and/or mining maintenance.
- BASc. In Mechanical Engineering or Red Seal HD Mechanic
- Demonstrated work experience in equipment maintenance planning.
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment is required.
Experience / Skills
- Expert in Heavy Duty Equipment maintenance.
- Work in a similar role for a mine or large heavy civil/mining contractor.
- Experience with scheduling.
- Detailed understanding of technical aspects of maintenance including reading drawings, understanding parts procurement and contractor management.
- Experience in contract management, budget supervision, customer service and stakeholder management.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize while under pressure.
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision.
Work Location & Conditions
This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
Compensation
The expected hourly/salary range for this position is CAD $50-$55, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
