Starting Wage Range: $16.00/hr. - $20.01/hr.
Job Summary:
Cleans and sanitizes dishes, cooking pots and utensils and other food service equipment. Assists with the preparation of meals and snacks and all related food services of the school, and to maintain the kitchen in a hygienic, safe and presentable condition.
Essential Functions:
- Member of a close team providing quality nutrition and food experiences to young children and their families.
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining cookware, service ware, and utensils in a fast paced professional kitchen.
- Completes basic kitchen sanitation and housekeeping tasks.
- Assists with food preparation for Preschool and Education programs.
- Maintains safety in the kitchen, including record keeping and attending required training.
- Daily care and maintenance of industrial dishwasher.
- Sanitize food preparation areas and sweep floors daily.
- Performs basic laundry tasks.
- Prepares serving carts with appropriate dishware and utensils.
- Sanitizes and maintains serving carts between meals.
- Receives food deliveries.
- Maintains safety and organization in food storage areas.
- Wears kitchen attire as required to promote cleanliness and safety.
- Properly handle, store, and label food items.
- Maintains all food safety regulations.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience working in an institutional kitchen or restaurant is preferred but not necessary.
- OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Driving Requirements:
- This position may require driving.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
- Requires a food handler’s card or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to become familiar with Head Start Performance Standards.
- Must be able to become familiar with USDA regulations.
- Requires First Aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- TB and Hep B vaccinations and a physical are required every three (3) years.
- Basic food preparation skills are preferred but not necessary.
- On-the-job training provided upon hire.
- Must have strong communication skills.
- Must be dependable and have strong time management skills.
- Must be receptive to learning new tasks and participate in training.
- Must understand requirements for safe food service, and follow all food safety procedures.
- Must have good personal cleanliness habits.
- Must be able to work well with children and staff.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
- Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
- Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
- Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.
- Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
- May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
- Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
