Join our team as a Senior Specialist, Compensation! In this role, you will be an individual contributor responsible for advancing the design, analytics, and governance of compensation programs across the organization. This role combines strong analytical expertise with program ownership to ensure compensation practices are competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational strategy. It also serves as a key advisor to HR and business leaders, translating complex data into insights and recommendations that inform compensation decisions at scale.
This position is based at our Home Office in Calgary, Alberta.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to the development and continuous refinement of the compensation strategy, providing data-driven recommendations, while leading the design and ongoing enhancement of key compensation components
- Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend enhancements based on analytics, market data, and business needs
- Lead complex compensation analyses, including workforce segmentation, pay equity and cost modeling, while building and maintaining robust models to support compensation planning, scenario analysis, and forecasting
- Synthesize large datasets into clear insights and narratives to guide leadership decision-making
- Continuously enhance data integrity, reporting frameworks, and analytics capabilities within compensation
- Play a lead role in the annual compensation cycle, including planning, modeling, execution, and post-cycle analysis, while partnering with Finance to support budgeting and forecasting of incentive programs, identifying trends and risks
- Ensure accurate and efficient execution of compensation programs through strong processes and controls
- Lead market research and benchmarking activities across Canada and the U.S.
- Interpret survey data and external trends to inform pay positioning and program design
- Prepare and submit compensation surveys, ensuring data quality and relevance
- Provide expert guidance to Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, and leaders on compensation decisions, provide support more complex or sensitive compensation cases with thorough analysis and recommendations
- Develop tools, guidelines, and frameworks to enable consistent, data-informed decision-making
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including pay equity across jurisdictions, while supporting and enhancing compensation governance practices, policies, and audit controls
- Lead the job evaluation process, providing analytical rigor and well-supported recommendations
- Translate technical compensation concepts into clear, accessible materials for stakeholders, while supporting the development of total rewards statements and communication materials
- Enhance organizational understanding of compensation programs and processes
- Support the design of job architecture, job evaluation, and overall compensation design for Canada and the US
- Perform additional duties as needed to support team and organizational goals
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, mathematics or statistics, human resources, Commerce or Business Administration
- Intermediate to senior level experience in compensation (4+ years experience)
- Completion of CCP or Certified Compensation Professional designation (or working towards)
- Experience successfully implementing new compensation structures
- Experience in budgeting and/or workforce planning is considered an asset
- Experience in job evaluation and salary structure design, as well as knowledge of pay equity legislation
- Experience with the Mercer and Towers surveys and on-line tools
- Understanding of the holistic role total rewards play in the employee value proposition, with knowledge of benefits, recognition and rewards, and workplace practices considered an asset
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, with an intermediate working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and data visualization and storytelling skills
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- A collaborative, adaptable, and proactive team player with a growth mindset, able to manage changing priorities effectively
- Experience with UKG is considered an asset
- Bilingualism English/French is considered an asset
