The Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) serves as the bridge between the University and the community for the transfer of knowledge, expertise, skills and capabilities in campus-wide disciplines. We implement various initiatives to encourage and facilitate knowledge transfer (KT), including but not limited to the protection of intellectual properties of the University, organising activities to engage internal and external stakeholders, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship activities, and formulate strategies and policies towards the holistic development of the University’s KT.

Position Description
The Intellectual Property (IP) Manager is one of the key team members of IP Management & Licensing Team at KTO. The candidate will oversee the development and execution of strategies aimed at transferring knowledge and technology derived from the University's research outcomes to industry partners and other stakeholders. Working closely with our Senior Manager, the candidate will spearhead initiatives to promote and streamline knowledge transfer (KT). Responsibilities include managing the University's IP portfolio and coordinating activities involving both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, protect, and maintain the university’s IP portfolio, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets;
- Assess the commercial potential of university-generated inventions and innovations, and coordinate strategies for IP licensing, commercialisation, and technology transfer;
- Serve as the primary point of contact between researchers, faculty, external partners, and legal advisors regarding IP-related matters;
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of institutional IP policies, procedures, and guidelines;
- Ensure proper management of IP documentation, records, and compliance with relevant local and international IP laws and regulations;
- Prepare, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements, such as non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), material transfer agreements (MTAs), and licensing agreements;
- Organise IP awareness programs, training, and workshops for staff and students to promote knowledge of IP rights and responsibilities;
- Prepare and submit regular reports on IP activities and outcomes to senior management and relevant bodies, such as the University Grants Committee (UGC);
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in IP law, technology transfer, and commercialisation opportunities;
- Work closely with the entrepreneurship team and licensing team to facilitate the translation of research outputs into impactful outcomes for society; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or above in Science, Engineering, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline. A higher degree or relevant professional qualifications is an advantage;
- At least 4–7 years of relevant experience in intellectual property management, technology transfer, or related fields, preferably in academic, research, or innovation environments;
- Solid knowledge of intellectual property laws, procedures, and best practices, especially in areas such as patent, copyright, and trademark protection;
- Experience in evaluating, managing, and commercialising IP assets;
- Strong analytical, organisational, and project management skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese;
- Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements;
- Good interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, legal professionals, and industry partners;
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a tea; and
- Familiarity with Hong Kong’s innovation and knowledge transfer ecosystem is a plus.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
