As a Vice President in the Compliance department, you will act as a senior Regulatory Compliance advisor to the business, ensuring products, customer journeys, and operational processes are designed and operated in line with applicable German and EU regulatory requirements and internal standards.
This is a VP role based in Berlin (on-site) with significant leadership-by-influence, strong stakeholder exposure, and ownership of key elements of the compliance program.
Job responsibilities
- Provide senior, practical advice on regulatory compliance requirements and internal standards across the product lifecycle (design, launch, change management).
- Lead compliance reviews for new initiatives and material changes, including appropriate documentation.
- Own regulatory horizon scanning for relevant German/EU developments; assess impacts and drive implementation plans with clear actions and evidence.
- Draft, maintain, and enhance Compliance policies, procedures and standards
- Design a risk-based Monitoring & Testing plan
- Identify proactively, investigate, and document compliance issues; ensure timely escalation and reporting to internal stakeholders and governance forums.
- Prepare committee-ready reporting on compliance risks, themes, and metrics for senior management / governance committees.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Solid experience in banking compliance in Germany with strong knowledge of the European regulatory environment (including MaRisk and related supervisory expectations in European retail banking).
- 5 + years’ experience supporting retail banking / consumer banking activities and associated processes and controls.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and influence effectively across all stakeholders
- Strong drafting skills (policies, procedures, governance materials) and comfort operating with documentation and evidence standards.
- Structured, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
- Fluent in German and English.
- University degree in Law, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Experience supporting a new launch / build-out or a fast-scaling digital environment.
