The Regulatory and Identity Services Taituarā branch designs and delivers systems and services that impact almost every New Zealander. The Complex Licensing team leads regulatory compliance for Class 4 societies and trusts. This includes overseeing licensing and financial compliance, as well as building and maintaining effective, professional relationships across the sector. The team comprises both senior regulators and forensic accountants, reflecting the breadth and complexity of the work.

We have two fixed‑term Senior Gambling Regulator opportunities for experienced professionals who want to make a meaningful impact in a complex regulatory environment. These frontline specialist roles sit within the gambling compliance space and are central to maintaining the integrity of the Class 4 gambling system, with a strong focus on harm minimisation and sector accountability.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will deliver mature, risk‑based regulatory responses across licensing and Class 4 gambling. You’ll apply sound regulatory judgement to make robust, defensible decisions, assess licence applications, investigate complaints, and work alongside senior regulatory accountants and regulators to support effective, joined‑up compliance activity across the sector.
You will lead through influence, sharing technical expertise and strengthening team capability through guidance and knowledge sharing, while building and maintaining strong, constructive relationships with regulated parties and sector stakeholders. These positions suit experienced practitioners from investigation, law, accounting, or financial analysis backgrounds who are confident operating in complex regulatory environments.

The appointing range for this role is $100,359 - $124,891, with appointments expected to be made at or around the midpoint of $111,509.
