Job Overview:
The Environmental Advisor will be tasked with implementing the Prime Contractor’s environmental management program for terrestrial-based scopes of work and ensuring subcontractor compliance with applicable management plans and regulatory requirements. The Environmental Advisor will be responsible for liaising with subcontractor environment and construction teams, the development and implementation of environmental mitigation measures, and coordination of environmental monitoring resources. The role is site-based on a 14/7 rotation and may periodically be required to perform night shift rotations to support site operations.
Base Salary Range: $138,973 - $158,113 (the range provided is for contracted hours only). In addition, McDermott offers a competitive total rewards package including project uplift and bonuses.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conduct environmental inspections, assessments, and audits to verify subcontractor compliance with project permits, approvals, and environmental requirements
- Support the development, review, and approval of Environmental Work Plans (EWPs) and Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs)
- Collaborate closely with the prime contractor construction and subcontractor construction teams to assist with work planning and ensure the inclusion of environment and regulatory requirements
- Lead or participate in investigations of environmental incidents and regulatory non-compliances to determine root causes and corrective actions
- Participate in and/or lead environmental site walkthroughs with management, subcontractor, or client representatives
- Lead or participate in regular client, subcontractor, and internal meetings
- Conduct quality assurance reviews on subcontractor environmental monitoring data to identify deficiencies and ensure accuracy of reported data
- Develop and foster positive relationships with the client, subcontractors, and external stakeholders
- Coordinate terrestrial and marine emergency spill response efforts and conduct periodic drills
- Prepare and/or review weekly and monthly environmental monitoring reports
- Support the implementation of the contractor’s environmental management systems to meet corporate, legislative, and client requirements, including compliance with international standards (e.g., ISO 14001 environmental management system)
- Maintain familiarity with all company and project / contract-specific HSES terms, requirements, and deliverables
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, or Earth Sciences
- Possession of a professional designation in British Columbia (PAg, RPBio, CPESC, etc.) or eligibility to obtain one is an asset
- 5+ years of experience on major projects and field experience implementing environmental management programs and subcontractor management during construction
- Experience with erosion and sediment control and wastewater treatment is an asset
- Experience conducting environmental monitoring activities, inspections, assessments, adaptively managing changing conditions, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental regulations
- Effective communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft programs including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
