The Technologist – Lab & Materials is responsible for managing laboratory testing, color and fabric quality validation, mini-bulk approvals, and supplier laboratory compliance. The role supports product development and bulk production by ensuring adherence to global quality standards, accurate test execution, and effective stakeholder coordination.
Your role and impact
1. Testing & Laboratory Management•
Execute wash and performance testing on bulk production samples (in-house and third-party) and prepare detailed test reports.
•
Review and validate test reports received from suppliers and third-party laboratories to support product development activities.
•
Conduct fabric analysis for new fabric qualities, including defining new test requirements, procedures, and quality benchmarks in alignment with the Global Quality Manual (QIM).
•
Perform competitor sample analysis, testing, and reporting to support benchmarking and continuous improvement.
•
Manage annual physical and RSL testing programs for EU and US markets.
•
Review and verify invoices and bills received from third-party testing laboratories.
2. Laboratory Operations & Equipment Control
•
Operate datacolor machines and ensure proper maintenance and calibration.
•
Maintain washing machines, dryers, and other laboratory equipment.
•
Conduct supplier factory lab visits to ensure compliance with STST SOPs (Supplier Lab Audits).
•
Obtain quotations, negotiate pricing, and finalize procurement of laboratory equipment.
3. Quality Assurance & Technical Support
•
Handle fabric and color quality claims from HQ by conducting testing, analysis, and root-cause evaluation.
•
Review supplier and third-party test specimens in cases of result discrepancies and provide technical feedback.
•
Analyze competitor and external testing manuals to establish benchmarks for new products and quality standards.
•
Finalize test matrices in coordination with HQ and suppliers.
•
Deliver testing-related training to the local Quality Assurance team.
4. Mini-Bulk & Shade Management
•
Conduct mini-bulk approvals based on visual inspection, datacolor evaluation, and fabric quality assessment using approved checklists, and obtain final approval from HQ.
•
Provide clear mini-bulk comments and signed approval copies to suppliers.
•
Maintain hard-copy and digital records of mini-bulk approvals, including updates to the shared Mini-Bulk Master file.
•
Coordinate with the Quality team to replace expired mini-bulk or shade band standards, ensuring timely renewals.
•
Perform first bulk shade cross-checks using datacolor when requested by QC or suppliers.
5. Sample & Parcel Management
•
Dispatch samples to HQ and monitor shipment tracking on a weekly basis to ensure timely receipt.
6. Additional Responsibilities
•
Participate in projects and assignments delegated by the line manager, aligned with business priorities.
About you
- Textile Technology background
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in laboratory testing, fabric, and color management.
- Strong knowledge of color science and fabric–color interaction.
- High level of teamwork, collaboration, and stakeholder coordination.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical ability.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly advanced Excel usage.
- Flexible working approach with the ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple projects.
