SUMMARY
FMC has a strong pipeline of innovative herbicide active ingredients with substantial growth potential. To support this opportunity, we are seeking a Regulatory and Development Lead – Africa who will, as a member of the EMEA Regulatory leadership team, work closely with the global R&D and EMEA teams to build and execute regulatory strategies that drive business results.
The Regulatory and Development Lead – Africa will develop and implement a comprehensive regulatory strategy across African markets in alignment with business objectives.
Location: Centurion, South Africa
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor, interpret, and assess the impact of regulatory changes at national, regional, and continental levels (e.g., AfCFTA, local regulators)
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and industry standards across all operating countries
Act as the primary interface with regulators, government authorities, and industry bodies, representing the organization in forums and consultations
Provide regulatory guidance, risk assessment, and regular reporting to internal stakeholders and senior management
Support market entry, expansion, localization, and strategic initiatives (e.g., ventures, partnerships, acquisitions) through regulatory assessment
Lead regulatory due diligence for new countries, products, and services, ensuring compliance readiness
Identify, assess, and manage regulatory risks, while developing and maintaining regulatory frameworks, policies, and procedures
Build strong external relationships and internal regulatory capability through training, mentoring, and promoting a culture of compliance and ethical conduct
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Agronomy, or related field
Postgraduate qualification (e.g., LLB, MBA, or Master’s in Regulatory Affairs/International Relations) is a strong advantage
8–12 years’ experience in agrochemical regulatory affairs, compliance, and policy, including significant exposure to African markets
Proven experience managing multi-country regulatory environments and engaging with government authorities, regulators, and regional institutions
Strong strategic capability with experience in long-term portfolio and market planning based on competitive, regulatory, and technological insights
Ability to translate market intelligence into actionable strategies that improve asset performance and guide business direction
Experienced cross-functional leader and collaborator, able to influence diverse teams and build effective internal and external partnerships
Effective communicator and presenter, proficient in MS Office, able to work in complex multicultural environments and travel up to 25%
