Overview

WildBrain Studios is looking for a Director, CG to join our team!    
   
Reporting to the Producer, in this position you will direct alternating episodes on a new season of an established show. Working with our in-house Producer and production team, under the guidance of the Series Director, you will provide creative notes and direction to story editors, art director, storyboard supervisor, animation directors, the outsource team, sound designer and composer. You will also incorporate feedback from the client, partners and executives. Your goal will be to maximize the full entertainment potential of your assigned episodes within the overall show style consistent with the Series Director’s vision.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You'll Do:

• Create a Shooting Guide for each episode based on the creative hand off from the Series Director 
• Follow approved direction throughout episode, and discuss any changes needed with Series Director 
• Provide feedback and direction to Animation Director ensuring character performance is being hit 
• Review approved Layout and Animation submissions, providing feedback when needed 
• Work collaboratively with Editor ensuring the edit is working throughout the episode 
• Document and communicate all audio pickups which may be required  
• Review Series Director’s notes on all shot production and propose solutions to ensure their direction is reflected on any material being sent out 
• Raise any creative or production issues as they arise to Series Director and/or Production team 
• Attend Lighting and FX Hand Off to Supervisors, making sure the direction is clear for both departments 
• Interface with outsource studio 
• Incorporate creative executive feedback 
• Lead the creative team 
• Work with the production team to honor the schedule and budget 
• Attend weekly script/story calls 
• Attend and direct voice record sessions 
• Consult with department heads and supervisors as to the technical feasibility of elements in the script and suggest production-friendly solutions that will maintain the vision of the series 
• Breakdown and annotate the script for your episodes in preparation for storyboard kickoffs 
• Annotate scripts to suggest staging and direction for the story board hand off 
• Provide direction to editorial to create animatics and help the Storyboard Supervisor in identifying key scenes for revision 
• Hand off story boards to directors and oversee the animation process by providing notes throughout the animation cycle 
• Work with the Layout Supervisor to set up shots and manage notes 
• Provide notes to FX, lighting and comp on final renders 
• Lock assigned episodes with editorial and call for necessary retakes to ensure the episode meets all expectations 
• Work directly with music and composing team and attend and direct all spotting and final mix session 

 

What You’ll Bring:

• Minimum 2+ years in a directorial position 
• Excellent understanding of animation timing and posing 
• Knowledge of storytelling principles and techniques 
• Strong sense of story and structure 
• Experience with script writing 
• Excellent planning and management skills 
• Ability to communicate processes, plans and concepts effectively 
• Ability to create entertaining and persuasive messages 
• Ability to work in teams/small groups 
• Ability to identify and manage different needs of individuals, groups, etc. 
• Ability to present specific viewpoints and influence others 

Nice To Have: 

• Draw over skills to guide and enhance expressions, gestures, and poses 

 

This is a Union position and the terms and conditions of employment are covered by a collective agreement. 

 

 

Why WildBrain

Pay Range: $2025 - $2600, CAD per week based on a 40-hour work week.
 
Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
