About the Role The Mechanical R&D Laboratory Technician is a key member of the laboratory team and supports experimental research and development activities related to ice hockey products. Reporting to the Mechanical Laboratory Manager, this position is particularly well suited for a mechanical technician or junior engineer with a strong interest in hands on experimental work within a structured research environment. The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation, execution, and documentation of mechanical tests in accordance with applicable test standards and internal procedures. The role also contributes to the continuous improvement of laboratory capabilities through equipment maintenance, calibration tracking, optimization of test setups, and enhancement of experimental methods and protocols, while ensuring full compliance with health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities • Prepare, set up, and conduct mechanical tests in support of research and development projects, including static, dynamic, fatigue, endurance, and environmentally controlled testing, as required. • Assemble test setups and instrumentation in accordance with test procedures and experimental plans. • Support basic data processing, graph preparation, and organization of results for technical reports. • Maintain clear, complete, and traceable documentation to support design decisions and validation activities. • Perform routine inspections, basic maintenance, and functional checks of laboratory equipment. • Monitor instrument calibration status and coordinate calibrations with internal resources or external suppliers. • Participate in the design and fabrication of simple test fixtures or tooling using workshop tools and equipment. • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional laboratory environment. • Support the implementation of new test methods, new equipment, or new standards as laboratory activities evolve.
Qualifications & Requirements
• College diploma (DEC), technical diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. • 3 to 7 years of experience in a mechanical laboratory, R&D, testing, or industrial environment. • Hands on experience with mechanical testing, instrumentation, or experimental setups. • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings (2D or 3D), test procedures, and technical documentation. • Proficiency with workshop tools and basic mechanical fabrication or assembly skills. • Strong attention to detail, rigor, and commitment to test quality and repeatability. • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tests or tasks simultaneously. • Team oriented mindset with strong communication and collaboration skills. • Technical curiosity and motivation to learn new methods, technologies, and equipment. • Resourcefulness, adaptability, and willingness to work in a fast paced, evolving environment. • Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written.
