Who We Are: The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. About The Role: The Senior Accountant will support the Controller in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and maintaining effective financial controls. This position plays a vital role in the financial health of FPHNYC by managing accounting processes and supporting audits and grant reporting. Responsibilities: • Assist in financial reporting processes. • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance. • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant reporting requirements. • Support the preparation of financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders. • Assist with the annual audit process and tax filings. • Strengthen internal financial controls and policies. • Work closely with program teams to track and report grant expenditures accurately. • Help optimize financial systems and reporting tools for efficiency and accuracy. • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making. Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector. • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and grant compliance. • Experience with financial management software and reporting systems. • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. • Carry out additional duties assigned to support the overall goals, mission, and strategic priorities of the department and organization.
