The Manager, Strategy and Transformation will drive the performance of transformational and strategic initiatives supporting Seaspan Victoria Shipyards' (VSL's) strategic goals.
This role will report directly to VSL's Vice President and General Manager (VP & GM) and will be a member of Victoria Shipyards' Senior Leadership Team. The Manager, Strategy and Transformation will lead and manage VSL's transformational and strategic initiatives, adopting best practices in change management, technology implementations, and communications. Specifically, there will be a focus on workforce development, facility development/enhancement, business growth, and production efficiency initiatives. The ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead through influence will be at the core of this role to help achieve VSL's strategic goals.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria.
What you'll do
- Lead and be accountable for VSL's transformation and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and present VSL's strategic and business planning processes – from identification, initial evaluation, and prioritization to submission, approval and completion.
- Lead and develop the competitive market analysis, internal review of SWOT, and prioritization of opportunities.
- Collaborate with VSL and Seaspan colleagues to develop and coordinate schedules, plans, performance requirements and budget assumptions for all VSL initiatives.
- Design, evaluate and implement different awareness program as it relates to changes in the market, customer and external environments and provide timely recommendations to capitalize on opportunities or mitigations of potential impacts to the strategy.
- Integrate, analyze and propose best practice business plans to achieve specified organizational growth and profitability targets.
- Develop, apply and consistently evaluate processes for tracking initiatives as they progress and complete, including measurement of successes such as KPIs.
- Create and maintain a constant communication program of the initiatives with business senior and executive leadership.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years of ship repair or maritime experience will be preferred, but other heavy-industry experience will be considered.
- Master's degree in technology, business administration or equivalent.
- Project Management and business transformation experience.
- This job is both strategic and tactical and requires substantial leadership in technical strategy and opportunity capture.
- Multi-faceted leadership skills applicable to direct leadership roles and influential (indirect) leadership roles.
- Ability to work in a highly flexible and fluid environment and always maintains calm and rational thinking and reasoning.
- Demonstrated ability to connect with a variety of team members and able to respond to stakeholder needs tactfully.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, outstanding oral and written capabilities, including the ability to build professional relationships with various levels within the organization.
- Skilled at advocacy and persuasion. Possesses the ability to influence others to act on information or recommendations based on compelling logic or common best interests.
- Solid understanding and expertise with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel).
- Self-starter with good organizational skills who can work both independently and as a member of a team.

The estimated salary for this position is $156,600 - $191,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
