The School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS) is looking for 1-2 responsible, detail oriented, organized and friendly students with strong communication skills to join our team.
The Student Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with IAS students, faculty, and staff to create and support the UW1-360 front office and various student-facing engagement activities for the School of IAS. This job is highly creative, independent, and administrative in nature. This job will serve as an opportunity to practice your skills in social media content creation (graphics, photos, Reels, etc), print and digital marketing, event coordination, 1:1 interviewing of facutly and students, creative writing and more. Student Engagement Coordinators are the first interaction to other students, staff, faculty, and the general public for the School of IAS office providing general customer service and support both in-person, online, and on the phone.
Combining all of these skill sets, the Student Engagement Coordinator will work in the School of IAS to create and support initiatives to improve the student experience in IAS.
- Position start: September 28, 2026
- Position end: June 11, 2027
- Hours: 10-18 hours a week, (schedule set quarterly based on class schedules and availability across all hired SECs)
- Setting: 8-12 hours staffing IAS Front Desk in UW1-360, 1-4 hours remote work available
- Pay: $21.30 per hour
The Student Engagement Coordinator Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service and accurate information about the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences to students, staff, faculty and community members
- General office work: including replying to emails, answering phones, copying and printing documents, sorting mail, filing electronic documents and purchasing supply orders
- Work both independently and collaboratively with fellow Student Engagement Coordinators
- Utilize creativity and innovative thinking to develop strategies for engaging IAS students, including but not limited to:
- Event Coordination: advanced planning, logistics coordination, and budget development
- Social Media Content Creation: lead content creation for the @uwb_ias Instagram account, IAS LinkedIN account, utilizing a combination of graphic design, photography, and videography skills
- Marketing: create and maintain marketing campaigns that amplify IAS events, programs, resources, and classes across print and digital platforms
- Community Outreach: outreach to and partner with IAS students, faculty, and staff to support content development and event execution
- Maintain a good understanding of basic registration deadlines, policies and procedures
- Maintain a positive and professional composure while assisting students with basic registration questions and scheduling processes
- Assist students who are requesting add codes for IAS courses, research and independent study courses, and faculty approved courses
- Collect and archive IAS course syllabi each quarter
- Be familiar with and abide by UW marketing guidelines
- Be familiar with and abide by UW safety guidelines for in-person events
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the front desk and IAS bulletin board
- Occasionally assist IAS staff and faculty with projects and events
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Eager to represent the School of IAS to various audiences and to contribute to the mission of IAS
- A career interest in marketing, advertising, journalism, graphic design, public relations, higher education/student affairs or a related field
- General awareness of current social media/popular culture trends
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite/SharePoint and Google Drive
- Interest in community building/engagement
- Familiar with the basic functions of Instagram
- Strong organization and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Canva, Instagram, and other marketing tools
- Basic understanding of the School of IAS. This means having general familiarity with our majors, minors, graduation requirements, common abbreviations, staff and faculty
- Experience developing impactful social media content and events
- Experience using virtual platforms to build and maintain community
- Comfort and proficiency with email communication
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- An excitement and willingness to learn new skills
