Part-time Instructor-Diagnostic Medical Sonography

 

Job Description:

Part-time instructor positions (as defined by State Board Policy, BP 3-10) exist to create and maintain a teaching and learning environment that empowers students to be successful. Part-time instructors work under the direction of their respective Department Chair, Associate Dean, or Division Dean. 

Pikes Peak State College maintains a pool of qualified part-time instructors. Part-time instructors will be selected to support departmental requirements. Part-time instructors may be employed to teach courses, conduct presentations or other service activities when current instructors and faculty are not available.

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.  All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completed Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Current registered ARDMS or ARRT.
• Documented two years of full-time work experience in medical sonography.
• Demonstrated skills working in a diverse population.
• Documented education or experience in program curriculum design, student learning/performance or program planning.
• Ability to communicate clearly with diverse groups to include administration, stakeholders, employees and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed Bachelor’s degree in education, healthcare, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Documented three or more years of full-time work experience in medical sonography.
• Experience teaching in medical imaging programs in a postsecondary setting.
• Demonstrated success increasing diversity of students/employees and implementing diversity initiatives.
• Background in building interdisciplinary simulations or shared learning environments.
• Budgeting, purchasing, and grant management experience in academic or clinical settings.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated success in launching or expanding medical imaging or allied health programs

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the college and the Department Chair’s approved course outline.

2. Using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.

3. Informing students of course requirements through a course syllabus, including: specific objectives, means of attaining objectives, and methods of instruction and grading.

4. Evaluating students on a continuing basis to allow them to be aware of their own progress.

5. Participate in department and/or college level assessment of student learning outcomes in general education and career/technical courses and programs as required.

6. Recommending instructional materials, textbooks, appropriate instructional equipment, and the Library supportive reference materials.

7. Maintaining and submitting records as required by policy and procedures.

8. Promoting affirmative action equal opportunity concepts within the scope of assigned responsibilities.

9. Maintaining required credentials, licenses, certification as appropriate, and proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area.
