Role Purpose
To support a busy team of Francophone Africa-focused analysts producing content for Control Risks’ online subscription service, Seerist, and for bespoke consulting engagements. Please note this role is for a 6 month fixed term contract.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Support the team by researching and writing business-relevant output on relevant developments in Francophone West and Central Africa.
- Carry out revisions to country backgrounders according to a pre-agreed schedule.
- Undertake targeted research in support of the production of analytical content for regular monitoring updates and bespoke consulting work on the region, including data-gathering for graphics.
- Propose innovative ways to present facts and analysis, and assist in preparing the presentation of research, including in PowerPoint.
- Support analysts in responding to client queries in a timely fashion.
- Analyse and present complex quantitative and qualitative information through accessible visualisations such as maps, charts and tables.
Requirements
Essential
- Knowledge and understanding of political, operational and security risk issues in Francophone West and Central Africa.
- Outstanding communication skills, and experience in conducting research and presenting findings both in writing and verbally.
Preferred
- Practical experience of living and working in West Africa.
- Familiarity with business-focused research.
Qualifications and specialist skills
- Education to degree level, preferably in a relevant subject (politics, IR, area studies, economics or another social science)
- Outstanding communication skills, and excellent verbal and written English
- Excellent command of languages used in the Francophone region in addition to English
- Ability to understand, summarise and present large amounts of information
- Excellent word processing and general computing skills, including an ability to produce engaging PowerPoint slides
- Proven ability to carry out extensive research in English and at least one local language
