The Cook Chill Food Production Center is located on the grounds of the Maplehurst Correctional Facility; however, Cook Chill operates as an independent production facility and is separate from Maplehurst Corrections. There are no inmates on site at any time. Civeo Premium associates do not have any interaction with, nor access to, inmates.
Job Summary:
Cook Chill is currently looking for a full-time Quality Assurance Technician for our Production Kitchen located in Milton, ON. Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring/auditing requirements for all outbound products and materials made in the assembly area. This individual will ensure that all quality-related policies and procedures are maintained as well as report all non-conformances to the Quality Control
Manager. The Quality Assurance Technician will be assigned as designate in the absence of Shift Leader.
Responsibilities:
- Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met.
- Conduct package quality inspections and audits and isolate any product that does not meet standards.
- Perform sanitation verification and validation testing.
- Ensure non-conforming material is properly identified and reported in a timely manner.
- Follow up on non-conforming product for Hold and release procedures
- Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure sanitation compliance standards are maintained.
- Identify issues of concern to QC Manager.
- Follow and practice GMPs and HACCP protocols. Ensure GMPs are maintained by production and warehouse employees.
- Ensure all standards for sanitation & housekeeping as per Company Standard Operating Procedures’ (SOP) are met.
- Adhere to all quality policies/procedures and regulatory compliance procedures.
- Measure, weigh, and count products and materials.
- Record product, packaging, and order information on specified forms and records.
- Laboratory (physical and chemical) testing of food product.
- Maintain and update all related records, ensure verification as required.
- Perform calibration checks of lab and processing/packaging equipment such as thermometers and weighing scales.
- Ensure that all outbound products consistently meet quality and safety specifications and adhering to sampling and testing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and codes in all areas of the manufacturing plant including WCB, HACCP, WHMIS, & Workplace H&S.
- Report potential hazards and unsafe work conditions.
- Other duties as assigned by QC Coordinator or QC Manager.
Shift Leader:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the assembly area, coordinating the work and shift priorities to meet the production goals.
- Organizing assembly lines and allocating employees on lines to achieve target attainments.
- Prepare production reports.
- Train staff in job duties and general procedures.
- Ensure all raw materials/packaging meet the production plan (as appropriate).
- Monitor processing activities against production schedule and update QC, Maintenance and Supervision on progress as needed.
- Daily verification and entry of employee timekeeping in the workforce management system.
- Maintain or exceed production goals on yields and efficiencies.
- Carry out timely and effective line handover between shifts, including the completion of proper documentation and accurate briefing on progress/issues.
- Assist in training as required to ensure proper production SOP's, GMP's, equipment and Health & Safety Standards are met.
- Inspect equipment & initiate appropriate sanitation protocols as per the Company's SOP’s.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- High School Diploma, certificates and classes related to Food Science, Food Engineering or similar field is an asset.
- Relevant experience in the food industry or monitoring activities in a manufacturing environment an asset.
- Understanding of food regulatory requirements in Canada and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- A minimum level of Advanced Food Safety Certification that is valid in the province of Alberta basic HACCP training or SQF valid is mandatory and must be maintained throughout the course of employment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities simultaneously to meet deadlines.
- Ability to understand and follow a variety of guidelines and work procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Effective investigation and technical writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment to facilitate and resolve issues.
- Outstanding computer skills, with applications such as MS Office Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred.
- Successful completion of vulnerable sector check, criminal record check, and any other required security clearances.
