Description
The Activities Assistant/ Beautician works with the Life Enrichment Director to implement programs that support the interests, purposes and social needs of residents, including assisting residents in improving their self-image through personal appearance and grooming. This will be a 40 hour a week job- 20 hours as Activity Assistant and 20 hours as a Beautician.

Activities Assistant Responsibilities and Duties
- Actively implements life enrichment programs as planned and assigned to meet the functional levels, needs and interests of each Resident.
- Honors the individual needs and preferences of residents and communicates well changes, requests and interests of residents with the Director of Life Enrichment.
- Assists Residents to and from life enrichment programs and outing as scheduled.
- Maintains good rapport with family members and encourages family support in programs.
- Assists residents during meals and snacks encouraging an atmosphere of socialization.
- Completes appropriate records indicating Resident’s attendance and participation in individual and group activities in a timely basis.
- Provides input to the assessment and evaluation of Residents participation when requested.
- Communicates Resident’s concerns and responses to interventions to immediate supervisor.
- Supports Residents individual needs, and preferences, customary routines, concerns and choices.
- Assist and works with individual volunteers and volunteer programs at the request of the Life enrichment Director.
- Assists residents with ADL needs that arise during planned activities such as toileting or eating/drinking.
- Participates in long term care survey process, regulatory, and accreditation.
Beautician Responsibilities and Duties
- Set up, operate, and close the beauty shop facilities
- Account for all equipment used, especially potentially harmful items such as razors, scissors, nail files, and tweezers
- Perform haircuts, perms, and style hair after baths
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
Activities Assistant Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Preferred Certified as a Nursing Assistant – 1-year experience preferred.
- If applicable: must possess a current chauffeur’s license if operating transportation vehicles and possess a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enjoys socializing, has an outgoing and friendly personality
- Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.
Beautician Qualifications and Skills
- Must be a licensed barber/beautician
- Should possess patience, empathy, and relate well with our elderly residents
- Must be aware of the safety precautions needed due to the type of equipment used
