Are you an experienced plumber with expertise in gas fitting and building system maintenance? This is a great opportunity to join our team in supporting the safe and efficient operation of recreation facilities. Reporting to the Facility Management Coordinator, you will perform skilled work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, drainage, and gas systems, while also carrying out inspections and managing ongoing maintenance and improvement projects. Your knowledge of seasonal facility operations; such as pool shutdowns/startups, and winterization, will play a key role in keeping our spaces running smoothly year-round.
Requirements:
Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent), plus completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the plumbing trade as a journeyperson plus sound related experience including gas fitting and cross connection work
Valid BC Driver’s license and clean driving record
B.C. Certification of Qualification - Plumbing
Gas Fitting Ticket
Cross Connection Ticket
Confined Space Entry Permit
Thorough knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade including confined space entry, fall protection and working alone safety protocol.
Thorough knowledge of municipal plumbing and gas fitting regulations, standards, codes and practices; and of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the application of same
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of heating and ventilation systems
Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, repair, maintenance and testing of backflow prevention devices
Sound knowledge of seasonal maintenance procedures of recreation facilities including pool shutdowns, outdoor pool startups and winterization and ice-in/ice-out turnover
Ability to operate a small service area; maintain a variety of records related to the work, estimate materials required and requisition parts and materials as required;
Ability to work both as a team and independently to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties involved in repairing, maintaining and construction related to recreation facilities, utilities and services
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow related work schedules
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions which may be accompanied by facility as-built plans, diagrams and sketches
Ability to follow employee safety and public safety, policies, procedures and practices
Ability to operate Microsoft Office applications
Skilled in the use and care of a wide variety of tools and equipment used in the work
Ability to successfully pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
*Successful candidate will be working Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
