An exciting opportunity has opened up for a strategically-minded Junior Copywriter to join the UCOOK team. This full-time role sits within a fast-paced e-commerce environment and focuses on crafting engaging, conversion-driven content across digital channels.
While strong short-form copywriting is essential, we are looking for someone who can engage deeply with briefs, contribute thoughtful ideas, and bring a strong sense of creative and strategic input to campaigns. The ideal candidate understands digital marketing, has an interest in performance-driven content (including paid media), and is able to think beyond execution to how work comes together as a whole. The role is based at our office in Woodstock, Cape Town.

UCOOK is a digital, e-commerce business for mealtime solutions. We create 32 new recipes for our customers to choose from each week, and we deliver Meal Kits with fresh, locally-sourced and pre-portioned ingredients to their door. Additionally, we deliver frozen meals, desserts, wine, Weekend Meal Kits and occasions boxes. UCOOK also has a physical store in Cape Town that not only stocks some of our online range, but has a delicious deli and grab & go range, as well as coffee and baked goods.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Junior Copywriter, you will be responsible for creating compelling, on-brand content across a variety of digital touchpoints, including websites, email marketing, social media, paid media, and in-app messaging.
You will work closely with the Brand Manager, Junior Marketing Coordinator, Social Media Manager, and Designer to bring campaigns to life. While briefing and campaign direction are led by the marketing team, you will be expected to engage critically with briefs, contribute ideas, support the flow of briefs through the team, and elevate work through your understanding of messaging, audience, and platform.
This role is ideal for someone who not only writes well, but also thinks creatively, understands marketing context, and enjoys collaborating to produce cohesive, high-impact work.
Core Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Cross-Platform Copywriting: Develop compelling, conversion-focused copy across digital channels, including email, paid and organic social, web, in-app messaging, and in-store communication.
- Campaign & Content Contribution: Engage proactively with campaign briefs, contributing ideas and insights to strengthen messaging and creative direction.
- Paid Media & Performance Copy: Write copy for paid media channels (including Meta and Google Ads), with an understanding of performance-driven messaging and conversion principles.
- Brand Storytelling: Craft compelling narratives that reflect UCOOK’s values, products, and customer experience, and resonate with the target audience.
- Social Media Content: Develop social media copy to support social assets, including captions, scripts, and content ideas, with an understanding of platform trends and audience engagement.
- Innovative Experimentation: Constantly seek new ways to surprise, delight, and engage our audience with fresh and innovative copy.
- Voice & Tone: Adapt to the unique voice, tone, and character of the brand, and channel, ensuring consistency and authenticity.
- Creative direction: Contribute to brainstorm sessions and campaign ideation. Ensure all copy aligns with brand tone, positioning, and business objectives
- Creative Collaboration: Work closely with designers and the broader creative team to ensure alignment between copy and visual execution. Contribute to the overall look and feel of campaigns by considering how messaging and design come together.
- Workflow: Communicate clearly with designers, brand team, and project managers. Coordinate timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure all work is completed on time, and aligned to brief. Maintain an up-to-date task diary and manage deadlines.
- Marketing Support: Keep all marketing documentation and folders organised and up to date. Support the marketing team with ad hoc administrative tasks to ensure smooth departmental operations.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualification & Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in digital copywriting, content, or social media
- Experience within e-commerce, food, or direct-to-consumer brands is advantageous
- Exposure to paid media (Meta/Google Ads) and/or performance-driven content is beneficial
- A portfolio showcasing strong brand storytelling, social copy, and campaign work.
Skills & Competencies
Must Have:
- Understanding of digital and social platforms, including websites, email, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.
- A passion for language, with a knack for clever, concise and engaging copy.
- Ability to write for multiple channels with a dynamic, flexible voice.
- Competency with Google Suite.
- Competency with a project management tool is helpful; ClickUp is preferable.
- A meticulous eye for detail.
- Ability to be flexible - to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
