AFP Superintendents perform leadership roles and are key influencers in the AFP. Successful applicants for this role will be able to demonstrate a significant level of tactical, operational and strategic leadership skills and experience.
AFP Superintendents have the innate ability to contribute to and influence the AFP’s strategic direction, together with the ability to initiate, drive and manage change.
The Superintendent role is responsible for leading and managing people, outcomes and performance of AFP business areas, building capability in line with corporate and enterprise objectives and strategies, actively seeking ways to improve the work of the AFP and the business area and driving strategic priorities and organisational change.
The Superintendent is required to build strong and diverse internal and external relationships, create a cooperative and collaborative team environment and create a culture based on acceptance and respect to encourage diversity and inclusion.
They are responsible for building and encouraging the capabilities of the business area and creating clear expectations of an ethical and professional environment. They are expected to mentor and guide members within their business area, encouraging and supporting them to develop and grow. The Superintendent role is also expected to represent their business area at a range of committees and forums.
This process will be used to promote successful internal applicants or engage suitably qualified and experienced police or protective service officers from other policing jurisdictions for the below positions only, successful applicants will not be engaged to fill vacant general positions within the AFP
The AFP works closely with a range of other law enforcement and government agencies at state, territory, Commonwealth and international levels to protect Australia and Australians from serious crime. As a leader within the AFP, you will:
Positions available as part of this process are:
Superintendent Adelaide Crime and Counter Terrorism Investigations (open to Police applicants) - The Superintendent of Adelaide Crime and Counter Terrorism Investigations leads specialised teams and oversees investigations into organised crime, counter terrorism, child exploitation, criminal asset confiscation, and intelligence operations in South Australia. The Superintendent works closely with partner agencies and internal AFP stakeholders. The Superintendent manages several joint taskforces and maintains strong collaborative relationships with policing agencies, in particular with South Australia Police. The Superintendent reports to the Commander of Central Command.
Superintendent Darwin Investigations and Operations (open to Police applicants) - The Superintendent Darwin Investigations and Operations is responsible for providing community policing and national security within Darwin Airport, as well as managing a small team of investigators who work on diverse crime types, including organised crime, counter terrorism and child exploitation. The Superintendent works closely with partner agencies and manages a range of stakeholder relationships, as well as maintaining a collaborative relationship with policing agencies, in particular with Northern Territory Police. The Superintendent role reports to the Commander of Central Command.
Superintendent Perth Aviation (open to Police and Protective Service Officer applicants - )The Superintendent Perth Aviation is responsible for providing community policing and national security within Perth Airport. The Superintendent works closely with partner agencies and manages a range of stakeholder relationships, including maintaining a strong collaborative relationship with policing agencies, in particular with Western Australian Police. The Superintendent role reports to the Commander of Western Command. Suitable applicants for the Superintendent Perth Aviation role, may be utilised to fill Protection Superintendent roles within Western Australia.
