Job Title: Plant Engineer Department: Engineering Reporting to: Engineering Manager Location: Tiverton, Ontario Vacancy Status: This is an existing vacancy Greenfield is looking for a Plant Engineer to join our growing team. The Plant Engineer provides hands-on engineering support for day-to-day plant operations and is responsible for the execution of small to mid-sized capital projects. This role serves as the primary technical problem-solver on site, supporting operations, maintenance, and production through troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and project execution. The Plant Engineer manages all capital projects with a total installed cost of less than $250,000, from initial scope definition through commissioning and close-out. The role operates under the guidance of the Engineering Manager.

Who You Are: • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related discipline). • 3–5 years of relevant industrial or manufacturing experience preferred. • P.Eng. designation preferred; pathway to licensure acceptable. • Have strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capability in a plant environment. • Practical, hands-on approach to engineering challenges. • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities. • A clear and effective communicator with operators, trades, contractors, and management. • Has the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. • High attention to safety, compliance, and procedural discipline. • A Self-directed person is accountable, and comfortable working independently. • Team-oriented with a strong service mindset toward operations and maintenance.
Your Experience Should Include: • Working in continuous or batch process environments is preferred. • Supporting capital projects, plant troubleshooting, and contractor coordination. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; working knowledge of AutoCAD required. • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Aspen) is considered a strong asset. Job Responsibilities: • Assists in the development of and compliance with environmental, health and safety procedures and food safety standards that are interrelated with plant processes. • Adheres to and participates in the plants and company’s Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety and FSSC 22000 ISO systems. • Participates in plant compliance in GMPs, FSMA, FSSC 22000, FEMAS, and other food and feed safety initiatives and standards. Capital Project Execution (< $250K) • Act as Project Manager for assigned capital projects under the $250K threshold. • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans. • Coordinate engineering design, procurement, contractor execution, commissioning, and close-out. • Prepare financial justifications, technical evaluations, and project documentation as required. • Ensure projects comply with applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and company standards. • Track project costs, schedules, and risks; provide regular status updates to the Engineering Manager. • Support accounts payable activities related to assigned capital projects. Day-to-Day Technical Support & Troubleshooting • Provide frontline engineering support to operations and maintenance for troubleshooting process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and utility issues. • Support root cause analysis activities and implement corrective and preventive actions. • Identify and execute small continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, reliability, throughput, quality, and cost. • Support shutdown planning and execution related to assigned projects or plant issues. Engineering Standards & Documentation • Support maintenance and updating of plant drawings and documentation, including P&IDs, plot plans, equipment files, and technical specifications. • Participate in and lead Management of Change (MOC) activities, including documentation and technical review. • Assist with PSSR, PSR, and HAZOP activities as required for assigned projects. • Ensure plant documentation reflects current installation and operating conditions. Contractor & Vendor Coordination • Coordinate and oversee contractors and vendors performing work related to assigned projects. • Ensure contractor activities comply with site safety requirements and company policies. • Function as a technical contact for external engineering firms and equipment suppliers on assigned work. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management • Support compliance with occupational health & safety, environmental, and insurance requirements. • Ensure assigned projects meet applicable codes and regulations (OH&S Act, Fire Code, Building Code, Electrical Safety Code, etc.). • Support regulatory submissions and inspections as required. Regulatory & Technical Compliance • Support compliance with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) guidelines. • Support TSSA registration and certification of pressure vessels and piping when applicable. • Support ESA approval of electrical installations. • Assist with municipal permits and regulatory notifications when required.
