POSITION SUMMARY
Denver Christian High School Social Studies Teachers are student-focused professionals who fulfill the mission of DCHS as a significant school-related influence on student learning. The High School Social Studies Teacher provides comprehensive instruction in history, government, economics, geography, and world cultures in collaboration with the high school social studies department. This role focuses on equipping students with historical literacy, analytical skills, civic understanding, and the ability to engage thoughtfully with contemporary social issues. Social Studies teachers serve as guides helping students develop critical thinking, understand diverse perspectives, and apply Christian principles to their understanding of society, fostering the development of informed, engaged citizens and empowering learners to impact the world with wisdom and compassion. The position is supported through a shared vision of learning that fosters a school culture of academic excellence and spiritual growth where learners flourish.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs and implements a comprehensive social studies curriculum for high school grade levels (depending on assignment) that develops historical literacy, critical analysis, geographical understanding, civic competency, and economic awareness.
Teaches social studies courses using a variety of instructional strategies and assessment practices to deepen learning and accommodate diverse student needs, abilities, and learning styles.
Integrates a Christian worldview and biblical principles into daily instruction that examines human nature, justice, ethics, cultural diversity, and God's design for society through engaging, transformational learning experiences.
Guides students in developing critical thinking skills, encouraging them to analyze multiple perspectives, question assumptions, and thoughtfully engage with complex social and historical issues with intellectual honesty and grace.
Develops trusting, productive relationships with students to create a safe, positive, and productive learning environment where intellectual growth and mutual respect are encouraged.
Collaborates with the high school social studies department to ensure curriculum coherence, consistency, and alignment across all grade levels and courses.
Solicits feedback from students to self-reflect on teaching practice, set goals for improvement, and grow in the craft of teaching.
Serves as a collaborative, productive team member who participates in professional learning communities, school events, department meetings, and committee work that enhances the experience for faculty and students.
Mentors students academically and in their development as thoughtful, ethical citizens through classroom instruction, formal and informal conversations, and co-curricular opportunities.
Partners with parents through effective, consistent communication regarding student progress, academic engagement, and development as engaged learners and community members.
Engages in ongoing professional growth conversations with leadership and participates in professional development focused on instructional excellence and disciplinary expertise.
Ensures the DCHS mission drives all curricular and extracurricular activities, demonstrating a love of teaching and commitment to seeing each student succeed.

QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
State teaching license or certification in Social Studies, History, or related field.
Minimum of a BS/BA in Education, History, Political Science, Economics, or related field.
Professing believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior with a demonstrated commitment to growing in personal relationship with Him.
In agreement with the Denver Christian High School Statement of Faith and Christian worldview.
Regularly attends and is actively involved in a church that affirms historic Christian orthodoxy (doctrine, faith, teaching, and practice).
Demonstrated expertise in social studies content areas and knowledge of standards, learning targets, and appropriate materials for high school students.
Competency in historical analysis, critical thinking, and helping students engage thoughtfully with contemporary issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style for different audiences.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize effectively in a dynamic school environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in History, Political Science, Economics, Education, or related field.
Experience teaching high school students in a Christian educational setting.
Experience integrating faith and worldview perspectives into social studies instruction.
Experience with student information systems (SIS), Google Workspace, and educational technology tools.
