We’re searching for a dedicated Assistant Vineyard Manager to join our dynamic Vineyards Team, working closely with and reporting to the Vineyard Manager.
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of daily vineyard operations, sharing in the planning and execution of work programs, supervising staff and contractors, ensuring quality standards, and overseeing precision viticulture tasks. With responsibilities that span across various vineyards, strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, contract growers, and visitors throughout the company are essential for your success.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Collaborating with the Vineyard Manager to develop and roll out weekly work schedules and operational plans
- Clearly communicating plans and programs to the CBV team and all contractors to ensure everyone’s on the same page
- Leading, mentoring, and supervising CBV vineyard staff and contractors through daily vineyard activities
- Ensuring vineyard equipment, machinery, and trellises are safe and well-maintained by handling general repairs and maintenance
- Operating tractors for essential vineyard tasks—including spraying, canopy trimming, mowing, mulching, leaf plucking, cultivating, and gondola driving
- Keeping accurate records, including tracking phenology, maintaining spray diaries, and managing timesheets
- Managing, servicing, and maintaining irrigation systems to support healthy vineyard operations
- Overseeing grape harvests and stepping up for other crucial harvest roles, including operating the harvester as needed
- Collecting important vineyard data such as soil and petiole samples, applying fertilizers, and supporting data-driven decisions
- Championing health and safety by actively participating in OH&S initiatives
Requirements
- 3+ years vineyard operational experience
- Leadership, mentoring and supervising skills, in particular to communicate, motivate and enthuse team members to create a positive team environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- To be eligible to work in New Zealand
- English language
- Class 1 valid driver’s license
