WSP Ankara office is currently seeking a Senior Biodiversity Specialist to join our Sustainability Services team on a full-time contract basis based in Ankara (Turkey). The successful candidate will join our multi-discipline and cross-international team supporting in the development of projects in different sectors.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership on biodiversity assignments, contribute to strategic decision‑making, and support project managers in overseeing complex studies, client interactions, and project outcomes, while ensuring compliance with international standards and best practice.
THE ROLE:
You will be responsible for biodiversity components of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) with particular attention to biodiversity surveys, studies and impact management (e.g., baseline surveys planning, preparation of methodologies, and execution, etc.).
You will be responsible for biodiversity components of Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) and post-finance monitoring of projects, including identifying risks and impacts, reviewing compliance with project’s commitments and applicable international requirements, and reporting.
You will attend working and organizational meetings, client meetings, and support project managers.
You will coordinate subcontractors and field teams.
You will support the development of technical reports.
You will play an active role in management of biodiversity works and development of biodiversity documentation (chapters, management plans, action plans etc.) and contribute strategically to the sustainability of projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
Degree in Ecology, Biology, Zoology, Botany, or a closely related discipline; a postgraduate degree (MSc or equivalent) will be considered an advantage.
A minimum of 8–12 years of professional experience in biodiversity- and ecology-related assignments, within a consultancy or project finance environment.
Strong understanding and practical experience in applying international lender and financial institution standards, and related biodiversity and nature conservation guidance.
Good understanding of sustainability and biodiversity-related standards, including critical habitat, biodiversity offsetting, ecosystem services, and natural capital concepts.
Demonstrated experience in undertaking environmental and social due diligence in line with international financial institutions’ requirements.
Excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to prepare high-quality technical reports and communicate with international clients and lenders.
Strong technical interpretation, analysis, writing, and reporting skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to deliver projects on time and manage competing priorities.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including clients, regulators, specialists, and local communities.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Willingness and availability to travel and undertake fieldwork, including in remote or challenging environments when required.
Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and contribute effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
Strong adaptability and ability to perform effectively in new, complex, and challenging project environments.
Valid Class B driving license and practical driving experience.
Prior consultancy experience and involvement in lender‑financed projects would be a strong advantage.
