About the job:
The Pavilion Recreation Facility Shift Lead is responsible for leading and directing staff, programs and operations at a recreation facility during assigned shifts ensuring that standards and procedures are consistently maintained.
A day in the life:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversees the ongoing operations of recreation facility including multiple staff, programs and uses.
- Provides leadership to all front-line staff working during hours on duty, including directing and assigning work, adjusting work schedules, coaching and providing input on employee performance.
- Provides ongoing leadership and support to assigned program area(s) which may include training, mentoring, scheduling, directing, assigning and work. Assists supervisor in hiring staff.
- Adjusts facility schedule and operations to respond to a variety of conditions, including program needs, user load, safety, budget, and environmental conditions. Makes recommendations regarding staffing levels and facility scheduling.
- Oversees recreation facility operations during assigned shifts, including technical operations such as swimming pools and ice rinks; opens and closes facility; ensures that health and safety standards are maintained; reports maintenance issues.
- Provides for safety of participants and staff, including implementing risk management practices across multiple staff levels and programs.
- Addresses public questions and concerns regarding facilities and programs in a positive and constructive manner.
- Serves as the on-site lead of the Emergency Action Plan, managing response according protocols.
- Acts as a Mandatory Reports; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Schedule:
Saturdays: 12:00pm-10:30pm (10 hour shift)
Sundays: 2:00pm-10:00pm (6- 8 hour shift until mid July, then only occasional Sunday shifts due to events)
Some opportunities for other hours to cover when staff are out.
Requirements
What you'll need for success:

What we're looking for:
Education, Experience, and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent; two years of college courses in recreation or related field preferred; AND
- Two (2) years of experience working in a recreation facility or relevant experience with at least one (1) year team lead experience; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
License and Certifications:
- Positions in this classification are required to have basic first aid and CPR training and certification.
- Other specialty licenses and certifications may be required depending on facility and program assignment.
Supervision Received:
Reports directly to a Recreation Facility Supervisor. Follows standard processes and procedures without supervision but confirms changes to standard practices and significant decisions in advance.
Supervision Exercised:
Provides ongoing leadership and direction to all staff working assigned shifts, which may include directing and assigning work, adjusting work schedules, training, coaching and providing recommendations on evaluating performance and developing goals.
Working Conditions:
The following are working conditions, including environmental and physical demands, required for this classification.
- Depending on facility, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include working in extreme weather conditions.
- Work schedule is varied and includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling.
- The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
- Ability to work and maintain focus in a work environment with moderate noise (i.e., working around others making periodic phone calls or having conversations) and with frequent interruptions.
- Work includes extensive exposure and contact with staff and public, which may cause exposure to illness.
- Ability to maintain sustained concentration on computer screens and a variety of peripherals; manual dexterity and daily precise control of fingers and movements while operating keyboard, mobile devices, telephone and standard office equipment.
Selection Process:
Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by Bend Park & Recreation District policies, including a background check and a driving history review when driving is required for position.
